Wire frame renders

I'm not a new newbie, but I'm new enough that I haven't figured this out yet. I know I can choose a number of views in DAZ, such as wire frame, hidden line etc. BUt I can't seem to figure out if there is a way to render a file that actually shows those views in the image. I have a particular project I'd like to render as wire frames. Can anybody help me out with that or let me know if it's not possible?

  • use openGL not iray or 3delight

  • Okay great thank yo7 for the heads up. I’ll let you know if it works when I get a chance to test.

  • Rob suggests using the Geometry tool, in Edge mode (button in the Tool settinsg pane, or right-click menu>Selection Type>Edge Selection), selecting All (right-click>Geoemtry Selection>Select All), and running http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/geometry/generate_polyline_wireframe/start in the beta. However, I'm not sure how you get the polyline object to render.

Will you ask Rob a follow up question about how to render it?
  • Hey Guys thanks for the input, openGL worked perfectly. I'll experiement with the other tips too.  Hey th3digit, if you can PM me or something I'd be happy to send you a print or digital copy of one of my books as a thankyou for your help!

Still trying to figure this one out, think i'm missing a step in the menu, but will keep woprking on it. As I mentioned openGL seems to work so right now this is all gravy and experimenting.

You are using the Public beta to try it?

I assumed that that public beta was the most recent version. I just had to reinstall the other day, now I’m thinking I may have installed another version that wasn’t beta?

The Beta is 4.11.0.something and is a separate installation from the release build, 4.10.0.123

  • This is now renderable in the new Public Build (4.11.0.231) - as long as you don't have the Geometry Editor or Node Weight Paint Brush tools active, which threw me last night. There are settings in both Parameters (under Line Tesselation) and Surfaces (under Lines) controlling how the wires will appear but they do render with default values (as below).

That seems strange - that having a specific tool selected prevents something from being rendered. Is that a bug, do you think?

No, the tools affect other things too (for example, polygons that are hidden by a GeoGraft remain visible with the Geometry Editor visible) - they need to behave differently for their function as geeomtry/weight editors to work, though I'm not quite sure of the logic in this particular case.

I'll submit a help request to ask about it.
  • OK, I have had the logic explained - DS handles the ppolylines as such, and converts them into a ribbon or tube of polygons for the renderer. So it's exactly the same as the other cases, what you get with the geometry tools active is the actual mesh (polylines) and not the render-time polygons, so they don't show in the render.

Thanks. I imagine we'll be fielding forum questions about "Why don't my polylines show up in my render?" for a long time after release of 4.11.

Yup, in fact I forgot again and had to search and find this thread to figure it out again. Surre enough, I had the Geometry Editor tool selected.
