Render Completion
I read that in order to take away the default time constriction of 2 hours in Iray...in progressive rendering the max time should be set to 0. Even though i did this...still my renders are finishing too soon leaving them with noise...i would expect the render speed to really slow down after i set the max time slider to 0...but apparently thats not the case...its still doing its own thing and finishing to fast...unless there is another setting that i still have to adjust?...
Help is appreciated.

You should also check the maximum iterations.
There are basically three stopping conditions: max time, max iterations and convergence percentage. (The latter usually defaults to 95%, which is usually fine unless you’re looking for REALLY high quality)
The render will stop when the first of those conditions is hit, so it you really want it to go all the way to convergence percentage, you need to dial up both time and iterations to prevent them cutting it off sooner.
Ok...but how many iterations is then recommended for it not to stop too soon?...
And...do i still need to leave the max time at 0?...
How much time/how many iterations are required will vary by the scene - there are no set values. The relationship between time and iterations will also vary by the hardware used, a faster system will product more iterations in a given time.
I dont know why but i have followed all the tips for progressive rendering settings:
Max samples is set to 15000
Max time 0
Converged ratio. 100%
All this with the hope that my renders would bake for a much longer time until i decide that i am satisfied with the results...but despite all the settings...Iray is still going at its own super fast speed and completing renders at 10 min. (some even under 10 min!)...not that i complain about the speed...its wonderful...but still i want to be able to decide when to stop the renders...because in most cases if i you really take a good close look there is still some noise left in the dark areas...(take a good close look inside the compartments where the books are placed...those are dark areas that still have some noise)
Also note that i intentionally placed two standing lamps in the scene and i gave each a low ambient light in order to keep the scene still lit enaugh but not totally dark.
I mean common...there has to be a way to make Iray cook the renders longer...but how?...
Increasing Render Quality will make the test for convergence more stringent, which will delay completion.
unlock the max and min samples both and set them to something much higher and see if that works. Click the little gear on that setting's slider and select "Parameter Settings". Uncheck the "use limits" box. Click "accept".
Could also try setting the pixel filter to mitchell and the pixel filter radius to 1 and see if that helps.
Under "Tone Mapping" the "Rendering Quality" setting defaults to 1. Setting it higher can result in better quality images, but the render time increase is multiplicative. Setting it to 2 approximately doubles render time, 3 triples, ect,ect,..
Setting "Crush Blacks" and "Burn Highlights" both to 0 should increase your dynamic range. Have a look at this thread, as some posted a render similar to what you are wanting to do https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/152516/dynamic-range-of-iray-renders
