Why do things move when placed in a group?

I have a couple items that I want to place into a group so they can be moved around as a  unit. One of those  items moves when place into a group...it shifts location so the relationship is broken. Why?

    Is Parent In Place on, in the Change Parent dialogue if you are using that (check-box at the bottom of the dialogue) or in the Scene pane option menu (lined button in the top corner, or right-click the tab)?

    Make sure you have selected the group and not one of the items in the group when you do the move. I usually select things in the scene tab rather than clciking on them in the preview so I know for sure what I am selecting.

    I'll look for that Parent in Place option.  Sounds like what I'm after.
