sudden problem using hdri

I have noticed recently that if I use hdri files as backgrounds, either in iray or using Parris' ILB dome, everything looks great in a preview render, but for the final render the background image looks blurry rather than clear. I don't have anything on the camera for DOF, and I am talking about even using the highest resolution hdri files. COuld there be a setting I have somehow messed up? it is especially a problem if the figure is standing or sitting on ground that now looks blurry. Any thoughts appreciated.

Oh and I am specifically wondering if there is any setting (on camera or in render settings that I should check to make sure I didn't do something).
I've had this problem too. I've never been able to figure out what is going on.
I wonder if what I need to do is render at twice the size or 1.5 the size and then reduce the resolution. But I went back through older images I did that I thought were ok, and technically the image is still a bit blurry.
Share a screenshot of the Environment tab from your Render Settings? Also, helpful to know what HDRI you're using.
