Question about removing a runtime directory

In my Poser directory (Just under the Daz directorym in Content Library, I have a product that I may wish to remove, in the directory (See attachment).  To safely remove it, without affecting other content, do I right-click, and click Remove Runtime Directory?

If so, will that only remove the one product, and not affect anything else?

  • Removing the directory will not do anything to files on disc, it just tells DS not to use that location as a content directory. it won't do anything to the way the other content directories are used.

So...If I had placed (which I did) a whole lot of products under Poser (in Content Manager), and I wish to remove (clean up my directory) them without affecting my DS Content Library (or Smart Content), I can just use that method- right click> delete runtime directory?

I'm double-checking, because, when I did that twice before, (shortly after) my content in my Content Library disappeared, and it took weeks to restore it.  Perhaps that was not the reason?

    (Thank you for replying!)

  • Removing a top-level content directory doesn't do anything but remove it from DS' list. Deleting a folder within a content directory does delete the actual folder and files on disc.

Warning!.  When deleting from the Content Library pane the files/folder are not sent to the Recycle Bin, they are irrevocably deleted (gone, kaput, never to be seen again).

    Thanks, both of you!

So...just to be sure...If I placed 20 products in the Poser area (>edit>preferences>content>content directory manager)- which I did- I can go ahead and safely delete those now (using the 'remove runtime directory' command), and not affect my Content Library or Smart Content?

(I also have some under 'Daz Studio Formats' I added and need to remove, I can do that safely, too?)

If you remove the content directory any files unique to it will show exclamation marks in the database and will fail to load. But it won't remove the files from the disc, and if you have copies of the files to another content directory with the same relative path the CMS will use those (the CMS stores relative paths only).

...So I can go ahead and clear out those unwanted products, and not affect my general Content Directory?  (using the 'Remove Runtime Directory' command, after right-clicking?)

    Thank you for the information!

I wasn't positive, because the last time I did that, I developed Content issues, shortly after.

...which may not have had anything to do with that, but I wasn't sure.
