Windows 10 PC Freezing During Render but Not on a Mac!

Hi,

I have a Mac and a Windows 10 computer. I noticed something unusual and was wondering if anyone has any experience with this issue.

I have Daz 4.10 installed in both computers and can render out a scene just fine in both computers. However, I noticed a key difference.

When I render on my Mac, Daz does its work and renders as usual and I can simultaneously use another app or browse the internet, etc.

But when I render on my Windows 10 computer, Daz or the rendering process seems to take over the computer. I can't really use other apps and if I move the mouse cursor, it starts to lag. As soon as the rendering stops, I can resume work as usual.

Anyone else experienced this issue? Listed below are my specs:

Macbook Pro
macOS Sierra Version 10.12.3
2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB RAM
Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Alienware Area-51 R2
Windows 10
3.30 GHz Intel Core i7-5820K
32 GB RAM
GeForce GTX Titan X

  • The Windows machine will most likely be using the GPU, which can certainly affect the performance of other applications even though the CPU may be only lightly used.

    Hey Richard,

You were spot on about the GPU. Since I have only one Video card, Windows turned off its integrated display and was using the video card to render and also I had my monitor hooked up to the GPU as well. So, I guess Windows and Daz were competing for framerate.

Anyhow, I ended up installing a different Graphics card to plug my monitor and set Daz to use the Titan X only (no CPU) to render. Not just the lag is gone, but the rendering is much faster now!

    Thanks for your help!
