I need help to understand how do I go about changing a Skin made for 3Delight Rendering so it can be used in or with Iray Rendering? Granted I know that I’ll have to change things to get the effects that I want.
DS will automatically apply the Iray uber base at render time, but if you want to adjusts ettings you can select the areas you want in the Surfaces pane Editor tab (Skin has its own entry for Genesis 3 and 8), then from the Presets tab under Shader Presets>Iray apply Iray Uber Base and adjust settings.
To be honest I'm not sure if I using a skydome or not anymore. However I'm using the following product "Easy Environments: Clouds" by Flipmode ( https://www.daz3d.com/easy-environments-clouds).
It does have settings for boith 3Dlight & Iray Renderings... The Props are for 3Dlight but the package does have settings (for Iray) but the renderings still come out black under Iray.
This product includes skyspheres for 3DL and a HDR environments for Iray. Make sur the skysphere is not loaded when rendering in iray.
I found out why I was getting a black rendering, I was accidently loading both versions 3DL & HDR for Iray when I just need to load just the Iray Settings. The environment looks just fine, however for plane need some help.
Basically, you select the surfaces, apply DAZ Uber shader, and then an iray metal paint shader to the plane's skin, and a glass shader for the windows. When you apply the metal paint shader, make sure you keep ctrl pressed when clicking the shder in your library. in the dialogue, set "Imsgrd" to "ignore". Please check out the link for a step-by-step guide.

For others struggling through this ...
Thanks, Richard. I'm manning-up to finally try and understand Iray (because of a terradome shader that does what I need on a very large terrain) and so am trying to "Iray" all my scene surfaces. I have 12 characters (loaded straight from the product files) which have all done well in 3Delight. Now, in Iray, some are dodgy, often way too dark. I was trying to follow your instructions quoted, but I'm just not finding the path. I get "Surfaces Pane/Editor/Skin" [And my figures are G2M and G2F so maybe it's a generation too early] and I get that there's a "presets tab" ... but then it starts to go pear-shaped. ie not finding the shader you're pointing to.
BUT
A search found "!Iray Uber Base" in <my daz library./shader presets/iray/daz uber/
Maybe this short cut will help others. I'm about to see if it helps me.
Cheers.
POST EDIT: Apply to solid surfaces (ie not corneas and similar) and change the "Emmissone colour" from black to some very light grey (white is too pallid) seems to be a reasonable solution for light skins. For dark skins, the viewport makes them look crazy-pallid, but a very light grey emmission seems to work okay on render - but it is a very "flat" toned result. I'll play around a bit more.
Emmission is for turning a surface into a light source so don't use it skin unless you want a 'radioactive' character. Try a very, very pale cyan as the translucency color for pale skins.

The first rendering is straight out Iray without any adjustments
The second rendering is straight out 3Dlight without any adjustments
Did you use a skydome? Because by default it would be blocking all lights in Iray, which would explain the black render...
Here are a few threads about how to use skydomes with iray:

This is a toturial I made for clothing, but you can use it for your plane as well: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/3029641/#Comment_3029641
