Help needed on my render

Hi, can anyone tell me what settings I need to use to make the shirt on my render like more real please?

At the moment it just looks smooth and plastic on the sleeves, Im disapointed as I thought as a Genesis 8 outfit everything would look realistic.

Many thanks.

I never see fine detail on clothing unless the camera is zoomed in pass some distance threshold. Maybe rendering to larger dimensions might help too.

  • I'm afraid there isn't a "more real" setting that you can simply change.

She appears to be wearing this outfit:

Looking at the promos, there doesnsn't appear to be all that much detail in the sleeves - no hems or seams for example. If you go into the Surfaces tab, you can change the gloss levels to make the shirt less shiny. If it has a bump map, you could increase the bump strength to give the surface more texture.

It doesn't say that it supports dForce, but you could try it anyway to see if it gives you a more realistic drape of the skirt and sleeves.

  • Thanks guys.

Is there perhaps a way I could put a de force short sleeve t shirt underneath and reveal the sleeves on that and hide the sleeves on the shirt pictured above?

You should be able to hide the sleeves, by selecting their bones and turning off the Visible button in the Editor tab of the Parameters pane, though getting the dForce shirt to line up with the non-dForce may be tricky. You could also try applying a dForce modifier to the shirt, and then selectively turn Dynamic Strength off for soem surfacs (and if necessary use the Geometry Editor tool to create new surfaces).

Many thanks Richard I shall give that a try.

What stands out for me in your render are the sleeves, skirt and hair.

The sleeves are fake; they need creases and folds like cloth; they also suffer from too sharp edges.

The skirt needs to drop to the floor.

And the hair needs to fall appropriate to its shape, gravity and the pose of the head.

First, It appears you are using the 3delight shader and not the iray shader.

the reason i say this is that the skirt is insanely reflective, which generally happens when iray converts the shader automatically.

i can't say much about the rest of the outfit as it's too noisy, But in my quick render testing i got the same shiny result only with the 3delight settings.

Once that's straightend out apply the bump map to the displacement channel, under the Default path, in the Surfaces tab.

This seems to clear up, at least in my testing, most of the flat appearance issue.

EDIT: ok it appears that there is an error in the default iray shader for the shirt that is just not applying the displacement map included to the channel.

After a bit more testing, the displacement is iffy, i kinda like the results of the bump better,

Flipping them around, bump in disp, dips in normal, disp in bump, seems to give a bit more realistic result, but i didn't have time to adjust the settings to get the best look.
