Reinstall questions on new system

I have been using an older system for a while now running Daz Studio 4.8.0.59 on the Valentina CMS and before I got it moved over the system gave up the ghost.  While I didn't lose any data or runtime, I need to reinstall everything.  AND I would like to recover the Valentia CMS database as I don't think I did a export after the last batch of content I installed.  Yeah, I know, I  have been dragging my feet badly with regard to the CMS (and Studio itself) but it did what I needed and I never had any trouble with it.

So in short I have the Daz Studio 4.8.0.59, CMS Valentina installer (both are installed), and all the content ready to copy over.  My question is if I copy the paths back for both "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats" (which will be the same location although different windows user name), under Content Library pane options menu > Content Directory Manager, and restore the Valentina database files from "Program Data" folder with the service NOT running, will that do it?  Or will it throw an issue because the windows user name is slightly different?

If this won't work, is there anyway I can export the Valentina CMS database so I can import PostgreSQ?

Thought I would ask here before I went and started moving runtimes around which takes a while.

  • It should, I think, though you need to make sure the full paths to the content directories are the same rather than just the folder name itself.

  • Thanks Richard, that is what I thought as well.  The only thing that will be different is the windows user account name, the paths will be exactly the same otherwise.  I will give it a try and report back. :)

  • It worked perrfectly!  I did have a slight problem with some saved scenes were pitch black when rendred.  As if there weren't any lights in the scene when there were.  Then I tried a older scene without AOA's Advanced lights and it was fine.  I reinstalled those lights and everything is fine now.  I will have to look through and see what other similar typees of plugins as apparently they have to be installed directly and copying a runtime won't do it.

  • Yes, plug-ins, many shaders (actual shaders, not presets using existing shaders), and some scripts place files in the application folder so they will need reinstalling.

Can I copy them from the original program drive folder to the current one (such as scripts and shaders)?  Or is there more that is done during the install?

  • Well, it is possible - but there's always a risk of messing up the folder permissions when you do it. Actually reinstalling is much safer.

  • I ran across a few orphaned references, apparently a few items that were in the C:\Users\ME\Documents\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library kept their old path location (linked to the old user account).  They are the only ones.  Considering I don't have many items in there I catagorized, I didn't notice right away.  Now though I did see a few.  If fixed them easy enough by right clicking on the orphans clicked database/editbasepaths which worked well.

My quesiton is: is there a easy way of listing all oprphan references so I can fix them all in one shot?  Or do I have to search for them manually (which I would be surprised if that is neccessary).
