I need help applying the skin shaders I bought

Hi,

 I’m new to daz and l have watched a good few  tutorials for beginners, so I know some of the basic stuff, but i  would like to know how can I apply EcVh0 Iray Skin Shader on my Genesis 3 Female and Altern8 Skin Shader System on my Genesis 8. I bought these products a few weeks ago and searched every where for tutorials for them, but I can’t find any.

    Altern8 comes with a .pdf guide which you can download from the ReadMe documentation before (or after) purchase - try here: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/51921/start (there's a link to the .pdf near the bottom of the page). Note that if you already bought it you can find the same files in your DAZ Content library in the ReadMe's folder.

    The PA who made Altern8 is active in the forums and very helpful - if you still have questions you can try her commercial thread in the forum here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/243716/released-altern8-skin-shader-system-for-genesis-8-commercial/p14

    I son't know about Echvh0's set but with Altern just select the figure and double click a preset.

    I don't own the EcVh0 product, but there is also a ReadMe here: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/read_me/index/23816/start and again installed in your Content library under ReadMe's. I couldn't find a commercial thread for that one though, but there is one for the G8F version here:https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/179826/released-ecvh0-skin-shader-for-genesis-8-female-commercial/p1 - maybe it will help.

    Sorry I'm not aware of any tutorial videos (not saying there aren't any, just I haven't found them)

    As the documentation of the above link is for Gen 2, I switched to the official Daz page of the product: https://www.daz3d.com/ecvh0-iray-skin-shader-for-genesis-3-female-s And from what I see there is no shader for the skin, only for the special elements - eyes, nails etc. And it seems exactly the same with the male Gen 3 shaders. Unlike the shaders for Gen 8 where all the skin shaders are listed: https://www.daz3d.com/ecvh0-iray-skin-shader-for-genesis-8-female-s. Is the author suggesting to buy and use the skin shaders fo Gen 2 for the Gen 3 avatars and so he put the manual for Gen 2 instead?

    I think that second-from-last preset (Skin-Lips-Nails) is meant to do the main job.

    Yep, it should be so. In the Gen 2 tutorials the shader is called only "Nails".

    So it is simple then:

    1. Load the figure

    2. Open the content Library tab and go to Shader Presets folder

    3. Find EcVh0 Iray Skin Shader and choose Genesis 3 Female (it is only Iray shader so way to mistake it)

    3. Click on the Surface selection tool (next in right to the Universal tool)

    4. Click somewhere on the gen 3 figure (torso for example)

    5. Double click on the Skin-Lips_Nails icon. If you see the torso skin color changes you are on correct path

    6. Choose the other body parts (legs, arms, face, ears) and double click on the same icon

    7. Then you have to select one by one the other surfaces of the model and to double click on the corresponding icon

    7. As you probably will have problems selecting the small surfaces click on the Surface Tab (you can move it on the other side too), click on Editor on the top and choose the surfaces from there.

    8. Rinse and repeat until you assign shaders on all the listed surfaces.

    From new user to new user:-)

    I also have EcVh0 Iray Skin Shader for Genesis 8 Female and i'm curious to know if there is anyway i can change the color of the skin.

    If you mean the shader - it is the same besides having a separate icon for "skin" (and you may need to right click on the icon and choose *Merge*); if you under "color" mean "tint" - you can play with the settings of the shaders a little, but it is more complicated and you can finish in a mess. In this case just re-apply the icons. Better look in Youtube for some tutorials for basic understanding how the Daz shaders work. If you want to use another skin textures at all then if you have another model from the same generation you can simply use it's textures - every avatar comes with an icon to apply all the his/her skins at once.

    To change the *tint* of the skin the simplest thing you can try is to go to Surfaces tab, to click on Torso with Surface selection tool, click on editor, and you will see "Torso" is highlighted. Clcik on the small triangle in left of it to expand the Torso options. Then look for "Base", click and look at the right column for this image. You can change the tint of the selected skin by clicking on the white row and changing the white color to somethign else. But this is like killing a cockroach with a sniper rifle. Of course if you decide to change the color in the skin by changing the shader settings you meed to apply the same changes to all the skin parts.
