Glossy Hair?

What's the deal with glossy hair when rendering in Iray? I tried zeroing out the glossiness on the hair item, and changing the material from plastic to skin or matte, but it still looks like a plastic cap.  This is in Daz Studio 10.

    If you have "plastic", "skin", "matte" as surface settings, you are not using a hair material optimized for the Iray render engine. Have you applied a 3Delight hair material by mistake? Check the hair product to see if it also has Iray materials and use one of them. If it is an older hair without Iray materials, you can apply an Iray hair shader to it. Some iray hair shaders are made by Sloshwerks, OOT, chevybabe25, and others.

    I didn't see any Iray hair materials in my list. I take it they are add-on products?  I do have a lot of Iray materials like skin and fabric. I may try one of them. I did apply the basic Iray material setting.

    Duke Hair.

    That's for Genesis 1 so it is 3Delight only. As barbult said you need to convert to Iray shaders;)

    You may have to make changes, based on the lighting you use, but here is a recipe you can try as a starting point.

    1. Load Duke Hair on to your character.
    2. Select Duke Hair in the Scene pane.
    3. Apply your selected Duke Hair color Materials Preset..
    4. Open the Surfaces pane and select both surfaces (Base and Hair1)
    5. Apply the "!!Iray Uber Base" Shader (You will find this in your Content Library in Shader Presets/Iray/DAZ Uber).
    6. Set Translucency Weight to 0.30.
    7. Set Translucency Color to a light brown, or a color coordinating with your hair color. (I used color 0.33, 0.20, 0.11) Hold the Ctrl key when you click on the color bar if you want to enter the decimal values instead of 0-255 range values.
    8. Set Glossy Anisotropy to 0.90.
    9. Set Glossy Anisotropy Rotations to 0.25.
    10. Increase Base Bump to 3.0.

    If you like the way it looks, save a Materials Preset that you can apply in the future so you don't have to do it all manually again. I saved a Materials Preset that saved only Values and not Images, so I can apply any of the colors and then apply my preset afterwards to convert the surfaces to Iray.

    These renders were done with the settings I listed above and the default HDRI (DTHDR-Ruins-B-500).
