Why is Poser only content mixed in with smart content?

I am trying to organize my Smart Content such as "1 Click M4 Face hair for Poser" To my knowledge this will not work with Poser since it relies highly on Poser material presets?  I guess I can see if it works with DS, but I doubt it.  Why is there smart content info for something that will not work with DS?  or is it a Carrara thing?

    That requires Poser 8 or higher and most likely won't work in Daz Studio. Carrara I'm not so sure about, but I do believe it's for Poser only.

    I understand that it does not work in DS, but why is there smart content data for something that does not work in anything but Poser?
