How do I turn a figure into an object I can use in DAZ 3D?

That's a really basic question, I guess, but I've never done that yet. I made a custom face for G8F that I intend to use in a long serie of images. So far, I've saved it as a subscene and I merge it with my new scenes, or I just take a previous scene and delete everything except this character when I start a new one . But I'd rather have it in my DAZ 3D files so that I can add it to the scene by clicking on it like I do for all other figures. How do I do that?

  • The Scene subset should show in your regular content, depending on where you saved it and where you are looking for content.

Indeed, now that you mention, I knew (but forgot) that I could find the scenes in the content library.

However, I still would prefer to have this figure along with other figures in my regular content (for instance under people/genesis8/female) so that I can load it in the same way I load others. How do I achieve that?

Select the G8F and save a Shape Preset into your Library for to store all the custom morph slider states. Or save a Character Preset this will include the shape and the material settings.

A Shape Preset can only be applied to a G8F figure already in the scene while on the other hand a Character Preset also loads the figure into the scene or can replace the character of an existing G8F figure in the scene.

Ok, but...how do I "save a character preset", then?   Oh, never mind, I found the command. Thank you.

By the way, why would I want to save a "shape preset" rather than the "character preset" that seems more convenient? Does the "character preset" not include the morphs I applied to the face, for instance, leaving me in fact with the original figure I transformed?

  • You might want to save only shape information, as a tweak that woudl not affect the materials. Also, depending on your settings, a character preset might trigger a what do you want to do dialogue while a shaping or materials preset never will (unless you hold the cmd/ctrl key down).
