Genesis 8 base female is floating

I've created a very simple scene, but I think I must have fudged something accidentally, because when I load the G8 base female mesh into the scene, she appears floating about an inch off the ground. I can move her to the ground plane with CTRL D of course, but I want to know what I've done to cause this so I can understand Studio better. The only other object in the scene, is the plane primitive behind her, which is positioned well off of the ground plane. Also, you can see from my render settings in the attached file that my ground position is set to "auto". What did I do?

Auto makes your character float; manual sets them on the ground..

Really? It was that simple? Thanks!

    Nope, that didn't work. :(

I shut down Studio, opened a whole new file, changed from auto to manual, loaded in G8 female, and still she's floating.

Setting to manual doesn't automatically fix it, you need to adjust the ground origin y axis by about 3 to 5 centimeters

So G8 female just loads normally about an inch off the ground? Is this to accomodate shoes or ground/floor meshes? Or do you mean that the default setting for the ground plane is slightly lower than where G8 female loads?

two possibilities are that your default scene has been altered: in the render tab, click the default button in a new scene and set the enviroment ground for manual, add Vicky and render... or your Vicky has been saved with a shoe preset that makes her float... deinstall Vicky and reinstall...

When I'm using an HDRI and the Draw Ground setting in Render Settings, choosing Manual and adjusting the ground height is just part of my workflow. I've stopped expecting my characters to load perfectly on the ground.

This sounds like an effect which is a bug in DAZ since Genesis 3 as I observed. Additionally you seem to have re-saved the G3 character after accidentially causing this effect.

Every time I touch one of the bodyparts with the mouse positioning them directly by mouse movement, the G3 character as well as the G8 character first jumps about some inches up. As I remember this was reported in this forum a long time ago, but never corrected in any of the current updates.

The jump on click issue is fixed, in the 4.11 beta if not the 4.10 release.

I'm working with it. It still does.

    The current 4.11 or 4.10?

I'm not quite sure, if the problem really is that simple.

Now after that question I tried to reproduce the effect. And I was worried: What ever I tried, the character (G3F, G3M, G8F, G8M) did not jump. indecision
So I added some more characters. None of them jumped.
OK - I let a render run some time. Finished it, closed it.
Tried again. And: the G8M again jumped.

So - you can not seriously say "problem solved".

  • And this is 4.11.0.136?

    4.11.0.236 is the latest beta.

    Richard,

what I wanted to say is: The statement "solved in version xx" is just an illusion.
As I described, you can do different tests and the effect does not appear. And suddenly after non predictable conditions, the character "floats" again.

Which, if it's true in the current beta (sorry for getting the naem wrong) should be reported as a bug - though of course if it isn't entirely predictable it will be harder to track down and fix.

  • I've just noticed I've got the same issue now as the original poster. When loading any Genesis 8 Female figure into the scene they float about an inch or so above the floor. This is NOT an HDRI ground plane issue when rendering/previewing. The actual figure is elevated on the y-axis even though the starting value is 0.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling all G8F base assets (starter essentials, morphs, etc) to no avail. Clearly even the base G8F figure is referencing an asset/file that got mucked up somehow. I'm at a loss to what that would be and how to fix it. No other figure generation has this issue, just G8F. I even scoured through all the morphs and pose sliders (including hidden ones) to make sure nothing was automatically dialing in and causing a problem.

    I didn't know that CTRL+D shortcut, thank you! :D

I'd definitely like to not see that bug anymore...is the beta stable enough yet? If so, I'm gonna use it right away!

It seems pretty stable to me, it has after all had a lot of internal/private testing as it has been developed.
