Textures and materials a maze

Hi
I have been using DS for some time now and can mostly achieve what i set out to do by one means or another. I want to find a way to texture some clothing items with lace, for example lingerie. I can use shaders to alter the type of fabrics and patterns and odds and ends of textures i have acquired to play around with the look of items of clothing. I dont mind paying for stuff, and i have see a few items on Renderosity that would fit the bill for me, i think, But of course these are for Poser only. I understand that Poser materials and textures wont necessarily work with Daz. I am not clever enough to understand the reasons why this is so, all i want is a solution, free or for purchase for me. Anyone have any suggestions please...

If the textures from other sites are made as jpg textures, with corresponding mat poses, then they will work in DS, but will need tweaking a little, due to the way the 2 programs differ in the way they handle textures.

However if the sets are using textures dependent on Poser shaders and the material room, without any accompanying jpgs then you would have to completely re-texture them with DS shaders.

Renderosity do allow you to read the read-me from the store page, so this is quite easy to check.

This is starting to get beyond my pay scale. I understand what your saying to some extent about jpg textures etc, but i am not sure about corrsponding mat poses, sorry. I also follow the info regarding Poser dependent shaders, all this is means to me is i am losing the plot. Is there not some way of buying from Daz textures and or shaders that will work within Daz.

most anything you buy from DAZ 3D will have DS shaders or textures set up. The exceptions will be some of the older products.

You could also look at The Lacemaker in the store here http://www.daz3d.com/the-lacemaker.

Because shaders only work with the render engine that they were designed for, and seeing as DAZ Studio and Poser use a different render engine, shaders made for one, will NOT work in the other.

Shaders in general do not work across 3D applications, since they all use different render engines, and the same applies to Maya shaders not working in C4D, or Vue shaders not working in Poser.

Here is one easy way top show you what I mean about textures driven by JPGs.

    go here http://chohole.ovbi.org/page_1.htm

Scroll down to The Lady of the Lake. You will see there is a download for the dress (which is free) and then some texture sets for it. (also free.

The texture sets have both Poser and DS settings. so you can compare and see what I mean about just needing to tweak Poser settings so that they look better in DS, as NeilV who makes the DS mats uses my Poser settings and works the DS ones out to get the nearest he can to my poser ones. If that makes sense.

Note the instructions about Jan's zip file for the dress.
