Categories content gone after updating DIM to 64bits... HELP PLS!

edited November 2018 in New Users

Hi all!
To begin with im sorry if this is a pretty noob and repeated matter, i really use google before posting questions anywhere, but content management in DS really resist my full kowledge and now it just made me feel i lost all my work and cant figure how to fix it.
So today i just donwloaded a weekly freebie as i use to do every week and when i opened DIM to install that content, DIM offered to "auto-update" itself to a 64bit version (wich i guess is pretty new, or i cant unsderstand why would i install 32bit version (x86). So i gladly click ok and DIM updates, and when im back it finishes to download that weekly offer
Then when i opened DS to scan known directories in search of the new content to categorize, i realize i had no "Cateogories" at all on my Content Library , just the Daz/Poser/Other Formats "Groups"... while trying to dont puke my heart to the floor, since i do work with the Categories as my main "content view", i figured maybe after the update i needed to click on "Start CMS" and so i did  and gladly, my categories reapeared on their place as they where last time i used DS, but they dont show any content at all...!!

I checked and i can see all content on Daz/Poser/Other Formats "Groups", so it looks it just affects the newly "recovered" categories... but now im really scared of messing up and screwing all that hard and timeconsuming categorization...
I beg you for help and send you greetings from Spain!

  • Have you tried restarting DS? Sometimes if you close DS (or DIM) and then launch DIM (od DS) the PostgreSQL database will end up not running.

Hi Richard, lots of thanks for your answer!!
Sadly it seems the fix won´t be that easy... after rebooting even windows OS and relaunching DS i get the same result.
Anyway, it seems that now, (since that DIM 64 update) i need to Start CMS everytime i run DS to get my Categories folders back, but they dont show content at all.
Im guessing maybe X86 and 64 DIM installation folders are different as usual and somehow the update messes up some required DIM / CMS related path connected to DS?

  • I'm not at all sure - this is a new problem, at least to me.

  • I see, thank you anyway!! Im trying to understand CMS since i think its the guilty of this problems. I really hope i will find a solution by my own, or there´s someone here that could help!

Ook, so it looks i just did the trick by going to DIM and checking my PostgreSQL installed package, wich was 64 bits, and then goig to the DIM Ready to Install tab and installing the 32bits version or PostgreSQL (wich automatically uninstalls 64bit version, wich i guess was automatically used as replacement when updating DIM64).

So odly enought, (at least for not an expert as me), now i got DIM64, DS64 and PostgreSQL32 bits versions, but CMS autoruns when launching DS as it is supposed to, and all content is shown in both SmartContent and Content Library Categories.

  • I wasn't aware of this but, as you've found, the two diffrent bit-depths can't read each other's databases. If you do want to switch for any reason you can export user data (Content Library option menu, the lined button in the top corner of right-click the tab, Content DB Maintenance and check Export User Data) with the original database running, switch the installation, and Reimport Metadata (again, the Content Library Option menu>Content DB Maintenance, check Reimport Metadata, then check User data and product data to get all the entries in the next dialogue).

Im glad my post helped somehow to find about it!

Hmm i see, and im tempted to try, althought i have to say now i remember some "inestaiblity" while using the 64bit PostgreSQL, like the CMS not running on DS startup as comented on previous comments, and CTDs when messing with the Start CMS and Stop CMS functions inside DS, trying to make it run properly...

I wonder if you were able to succesfully check this data migration process you mention?

And once using the 64bit PostgreSQL, would CMS autorun on DS startup as always?
If it was just a data migration matter, i dont know why it wouldn´t autostart...

    Greetings from Spain!

  • I'm using the 64 bit PostgreSQL, but I always have been so no chance to test the migration route.
