Parenting in Place

I'm having a little trouble placing props on a table. I have a glass that seems to want to wander around whenever I change camera angles. I can't figure out how to make it stay put. Is it Parenting in Place. Any help would be appreciated.

    Short answerL Yes.

Longer answer: When you set an object's parent, then it will stay in it's position relative to the item to which it is parented. If you select "change object parent" and pick an item, the default is for it to move to the item center (basically wherever the rotate or translate tool appears when you select the item). Parent in place keeps the object where it is, but it will then move when you move the parent object (keeping the same relative position). Two ways to do this are:

    1. Load the table, then the glass. Parent the glass to the table - it will go to object center. Position the glass where you want it on the table. From then on it will remain where you put it, and move with the table.
    2. Load the table, then the glass. Position the glass where you want it on the table. Go to "change object parent" and ensure you check "parent in place." The glass won't move when you do this, but it will then move with the table if you go to reposition it.
