Dforce for small shapes?

I find that if I use a much smaller shape than the dforce clothing was used for, the clothing tends to explode. For example, if I use a chibi or child shape for Genesis 8 with a dforce skirt- even tho it's autofitted to be smaller, it explodes and falls off when I try to simulate. Is there a way around this, or does special dforce clothing need to be made for smaller shapes?  Would greatly appreciate the advice, thanks.

I'm not a dForce expert, but I think what you might be running into is that when you reduce the size of the mesh, the density is becoming a problem. At larger sizes, folds and creases are working out fine, but when the vertices get too close together, self-collision may be causing it to explode. The only thing I can think of is to maybe turn off self-collision to see if that helps keep the fabric together?

You may also try to increase the scale of the figure/clothing before the simulation, then reduce the scale after the simulation is done. As JonnyRay points out, density of the mesh can affect results as does the size of objects.

Another thing to try when scaling way down is to reduce Bend Stiffness in your surfaces settings.

  • Thanks guys, i will try these! Very much appreciated!

  • Updated to add... i used decimator to lower the detail on the clothing for a smaller shape, and it worked perfectly to dforce drape afterwards!  It did indeed fix the density problem. Woot! Thanks again :)
