Saving the nudge (or step_size) as a preset

in The Commons
When I position an object in Daz Studio, I frequently change the nudge property for x, y, z translation to 0.1 to more accurately get it into the correct place. 1.0 (the default) is too large a step to get something accurately placed.
I am getting tired of changing these, so I wondered if there was someway to create a preset that alters the step_size (this is what nudge is called in the duf) to 0.1. I tried creating a property preset, but this does not save the nudge parameter, even though it is a property.

Yea, I find that the default settings for parameters in general can be annoying to work with, would be nice to be able to easily changing them, depending on what you're doing. I wonder if it's possible to write a script with user definable presets, but I'm not sure if it's possible to access these parameters through scripting.
Maybe try Save as -> Support Asset -> Save Modified Assets (this will overwrite the original, there's a confirmation dialog before you commit). Works only on DS native formats, not Poser (it's not an "asset", per se, in that format). I guess Save As a new (whatever) Asset if you want to keep the original intact.
Might work, but ideally I want to do this on existing assets, including the various Genesis base characters, and creating new version of all of these with the lower parameter setting is not ideal.
The other issue is that the default setting is better when moving the figure/prop into the correct location (particularly for large scenes), it is just the final positioning I need 0.1 for, so a preset to apply would have been ideal.
What would be nice is to have modifier keys to change the behaviour of the nudge, like 1/10th and 10X using, say, shift and ctrl keys. Not sure if that's possible without changing the UI code itself.
Either resave the item, save a scene or a scene subset. Cause the only other option would be to hand edit the file.
Unfortunately the idea was to change the nudge quicker than just clicking on properties for x,y, and z and going from 1.0 to 0.1. Whilst that is a tedious, the solutions you mentioned would probably take longer, as you would have to reload the scene. I guess if I loaded many objects, and then edited the scene file then this might be quicker, if not ideal. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
It seems there is no way of doing this easily, which is a pity.
I'm not sure it's quicker, but
Thanks Richard, that is definitely faster than editing each one individually, not as fast as a preset, but still an improvement, cheers.
Sorry, misunderstood what you were asking for.
You can save a preset to nudge a material channel. I did it in Everyday Gadgets when I needed presets to nudge the digital thermometer settings. You need to save a Shader preset first (for any material), then modify the last section as shown below.
I'm not sure if this can be adapted to work on trans values, but it might be worth a try. Maybe Richard's enormous brain can go into gear on this one?
I don't know who thought the nudge was fine at 1.0 but I almost never use 1.0. I have to set so many items to 0.1 it's actually crazy. We are talking majority of figures and props. The only reason to use 1.0 is when you have a huge scene where you have to move a character quickly from one place to another. That nearly never happens to me. So setting the X,Y,Z to 0.10 each time is a pain in the ass to say the least.
Perhaps one of the talented PA scripters can create a plugin. Say, select your object(s), open script interface, and then an option to change all nudge values to a certain value or the option to adjust individual nudge values.
How does that differ from the Edit mode method I gave above?
I'm not sure if this might help for but what about https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-4-scene-tools-set-2?
one if the tools "Adjust the sensitivity of the translate and rotate dials for more accurate adjustments, and then set them back in a simple click"
Again, it might not be what you are asking for so apologies if that's the case!
That's the tool I use. It toggles the sensistivity between 1.0 and 0.01. I use it all the time.
I'm not sure that running a script would be any faster than doing it manually, unless it affected all the props in the scene simultaneously, does it do that or per item?
I agree that it should be a global option in settings. Then again, it might make moving things very slow for things you want to move around more quickly.
Moving the decimal point is even slower with the new DS. I used to just do it and hit ENTER, now it wants me to click the ACCEPT button.
Seems like a general preference to set all nudge to the desired amount would be better. Or have a preference per body section. Like others here, I have to reset the nudge all the time. VERY tedious. And it's worse on Pose Controls for the hands (grasp, fist, etc), those are set at a nudge of 4!
Actually I think this would be even more ideal. Kind of like in Photoshop using the ] and [ keys to resize a brush on the fly.
