First your Skin is still set to PLASTIC as the lighting model in the Surfaces Tab. Depending on your lighting Skin or Matte should do better.
For Depth of Field see this http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/5084/
You may want to apply the simple UberSurface shader to the backdrop as that has a feature to not receive shadows. Remember to hold the Ctrl (Cmd for Macs?) when you double click so you can set it to 'Ignore' (not overwrite the texture maps already set).
It would have been better to have stayed here, especially as you already have some help. This is the New Users Help Forum, and others can learn from the questions you ask.
Yes I put it over there hoping someone would comment with ideas about how to make it better.................................since I have 3 pages over there and maybe 4 people have commented on my art......I was going by what this said but I guess I was wrong.......oh well going back to Bryce
Don't feel too bad, go by the number of views and not the comments :) Sometimes people don't know how to make it better. When I do, you know I open my big mouth. I'm not good with materials (and often don't know if I am using the right terms!) and if I like your composition (which I think are very nice btw) I won't often comment. I have been out at the barn and basically posting a few minutes and then doing other things, but I promise if you'll keep going with DAZ I'll be happy to mentor you with what I know. (Wow, that should take all of five minutes....) So post on your thread and I'll be happy to monitor it. Stick with it!
I have been watching videos.....and I am not good with people even in Bryce so I am going to try a simple dog and here are the settings I used........Trish
Spot#1 white..front...Int..132.3 spread 73.08
spot#2 brown ...right side ( 128 64 0) Int ..213.5 spread 116.39
spot#3 white...rear Int 670.7 spread 150.90
jestmart; I like that idea push buttons and see what happens .....LOL It is funny that this stuff looks so easy on the videos.....and then I get my hands on it and it turns to mush.....
NeilV 1; thank you very much ....I am afraid I will have to copy and paste it onto my forehead...I will however save it to the desktop.
Edited to add....That does explain a lot thank you!!

These are from our art studio thread for Depth Of Field. The second one is from the same thread already referenced.
