Indoor night scene

Hi guys, I saw an tutorial here showing render settings for the night OUTDOOR scene or an indoor, but based on night sky light.  Currently I'm working on a scene which takes place in a night but should be lighted by an indoor light [lamp for example] and now I'm getting confused how to achieve a nightlight outside and a 'fake' light inside [by that I mean not a daylight]. What kind of lights should I use [I'm still newbie in Daz3D], I heard that a lot of people use ghost lights [what ever that is] or maybe there is a tutorial which may lead me to this effect?

  • A ghost light is used to fill in, it isn't usually used as the main light. For a dark indoor scene you might well want to use some ghost lights, to make sure that everywhere is getting soem direct light, but the obvious light source would be a point light or spot light on any lamps, or for something like neon tubes you might apply the Emissive shader preset to the actual light surface (select the lgiht's surface with the Surface Selection tool, then in the Surfaces pane's Presets tab under Shader presets>Iray double click the Emissive preset, and .then adjust Emissive colour and luminance in the pane's Editor tab). You'd also likely need to adjust the exposure in Render Settings, otherwise you wouldn't be able to see anything.

For the outside night lighting, you can use something like TerraLuna 3.

You can also go to somewhere like HDRI Haven and pick up some night HDRIs. https://hdrihaven.com/hdris/category/?c=night&o=popular

Either way, you will have good options for "out the window" views.

I like the Iray Ghost Light Kit 2 set for lamps, etc. https://www.daz3d.com/iray-ghost-light-kit-2
