I imported the object into DAZ (as .obj). But it has only one surface. Is it possible to divide it, using DAZ? If not, how to do it in Blender or ZBrush?
First, make certain that the object is selected in the scene tab.
Then, click on the sphere next to "Perspective view" at the top right corner of your view pane.
Choose "Wire Shaded" to see the individual polygons.
Then, choose "Tools" at the top left of your screen, and choose the Geometry Editor. (Or just Alt+Shift+G)
Hover your mouse over the area of the object that you want to make a separate texture. That little
red circle you will see is the selection point. Right click to select one polygon, Ctl+Right click to select more.
You can either select every polygon individually, or select one and then Ctl-Shift-+ to select all adjacent polygons.
You can also left-click on the screen and bring up a menu to experiment with.
Once you've selected all of the polygons that you want to texture, left-click on the screen and go to
Geometry Assignment>Create Surface from Selected and type in a name, such as "Tripod Head".
You can add more polygons with "Assign to Surface, make some invisible, etc.
Go ahead and experiment, Geometry Editor is a versatile and useful tool.
And keep asking questions, there are a lot of good people here that know more than I do and will be happy to help.
In fact, if you just add the name "Richard Haseltine" to your question, he will magically appear and help you.
He's kind of like Voldemort that way.
