Hi, saw this in the newsletter: For a limited time, we're giving all previous Carrara owners the opportunity to upgrade to Carrara 8.5 Pro for only $89.95. but it comes up with a price that says: 166,50 $. Am i too fast, is it not until tomorrow it's on offer?
Greetings from Bo

    Greetings from Bo

Just posted in the Carrara Forum

We just changed something. If you log out, and back in it should apply properly. If not let me know.

This is the thread I took the quote from http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/27826/P660/#433404

I think you have to add the quarterly PC Subscription to get the 89.95 price. The deal is that the PC subscription is free.

okay, i'm a bit confused now, i just bought carrara 8.5 pro and a platinum club membership and the price was now 32.95 $? I do like bargains but this sounds like an error? On the carrara product page it says 69% off?

Yes, there seems to be some kind of glitch. Grab it while you can!

Ooo, I see it for $44.98. That's hard to turn down.

..crap, and a lot of us paid 84.95$ (- the 6$ PC coupon) for it. Really bites when one is on a very limited income.

I hate this "glitch pricing" rubbish because I cannot file a support ticket on it. Same happened with the YT5 Pro bundle back in December of last year. I think Daz should credit the rest of us for their site's flakiness.

    I wouldn't mind a 53$ GC.

    Totally bleedin' unfair.

Remember to use the PAFEST coupon. I paid $27.95 including the PC subs because of the email offer mentioned earlier.

KK - I've filed a support ticket on glitching pricing before and received the money back. Have Daz changed their policy?

...this is becoming like major "suckatude". After 17 months they still can't get this bleedin' site to work properly and those of use who paid more have to eat the cost.

Not a good way to treat your longtime customer base. Fix this bleedin' site or take it offline before you alienate any more of your customer base.

Where I live it's actully illegal to take advantage of such glitches, if you know it is, or most likely is, an error.

Cept round here it's been said that if you see it cheap grab it and enjoy. don't have the Daz_Kevin quote handy, was some time ago.

I decided to skip out on the savings, still annoyed with what happened in the official thread, so not giving the money over. Besides as I said in the official forum, I don't use the software anyway except for the occasional black hole effect.

The pricing has been fixed. The steep discount to Carrara was the result of two pricing rules combining in an unexpected way. We had previously tested the pricing rules, and they were working. Since this was a legitimate pricing glitch we won't be able to offer store credit to those who had previously purchased Carrara. Fortunately there were only a handful of individuals who got it for less than $89.95.

Still, if you are a non-platinum club member and owner of a previous version of Carrara, 89.95 is a heck of a deal for an upgrade to Carrara 8.5 pro and a 3 month membership to the Platinum Club.

...actually, I agree considering the full price and the features it has (especially with the M5/V5 Pro bundles, each alone costing more) . With the PC coupon that knocked another 6$ off. Guess I'm just a little frustrated that I keep missing these pricing glitches by "that much" (like with the YT5 bundle last December).

What a great offer.; but too bad I can’t use it. I purchased a 3 month PC membership ($24) on 31 August so that I could get a discount on Carrara which I then purchased at the upgrade price with PC discount ($74.50 with coupons) . Since PC memberships are not returnable, I can’t really return it and Carrara to repurchase them at the even lower combined price. Just wish I had waited a little longer.

I'm lamenting the fact that I missed the uber-mistake in pricing. I would have pounced on it.

But at $90 I'm having difficulty prying open my credit card. Yeah, yeah, I know it's a great deal but it's one of those deals that I'm not sure I need.

I've used Carrara since before it was Carrara. I still have RayDream5.5 installed and running on one of my older computers. 8-o

Since the beginning, I waited and hoped for improvements that would fix all it's perceived flaws. Through the various owners I watched it get facelifts but still only Band-Aid approaches to a crash victim. I do have to admit that DAZ has made significant attempts to update an aging product, and I have each time opened my wallet and snarfed up the latest copy. Unfortunately I realize that I haven't used Carrara to do anything with for a couple of years now despite always having the latest and greatest version of it. So, why should I upgrade again? Just what is so spectacular about Carrara8.5 that I should shell out two weeks budget of groceries for?

I was much happier when the price for the upgrade from Carrara8.1Pro to Carrara8.5Pro was totally beyond my budget. Damn DAZ, now they've lowered the price (for the next couple of hours) to just within my possibilities. Shall I jump the upgrade train at this point? I keep thinking that someday I might get back into using the features of Carrara, so I accumulate and accumulate. But have I become a software hoarder? Hanging on to things I will never use, just to satisfy some deep emotional itch?

What are reasons that I should continue upgrading? Enquiring minds what to know. :-s

It's late at night, you bolt awake dripping with sweat. You can barely remember the details of what you are fairly sure was a terrifying dream. Was it a giant red and yellow chameleon growing larger and larger until it suffocated you? No, that wouldn't make sense... Chameleons aren't red.. are they? What could it all mean.

Distraught you fire up your trusty computer and go straight to Google. "Giant Red Chameleon" image search and what's the first thing you see... the Carrara splash screen. "NOOOOOO!" you scream, "Why didn't I upgrade to Carrara 8.5 while I had the chance?"

You realize this is the 5th night in a row that you've woken in a panic dreaming about Carrara. Your lack of sleep affects your job, your family, your life. It's as if the Carrara Chameleon is toying with your head, using your synapses as a personal jungle gym.

So what now? You can't just go purchase it can you? Oh no, not at full price... but then how to satisfy that itch, the need the desire to install such an elegant software on your computer.

This is just one reason I can think of why you should buy it now. Also here is a list of the new features: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/27826/

Thank you for the list of improvements. Much of it is Greek though. :-( Unfortunately This is a situation I find myself in whenever I browse through the "Computer" section of a big bookstore. I don't even understand the book titles anymore. Back in my day we were still chiseling on stone tablets and the selection of tablets was limited.

I am excited to see what appear to be significant improvements in the Carrara animation tools though.

One big question I still have is: Do I have to install it on a machine that has the DAZ content manager running? I use Studio3. My big machine does not have Studio4 on it, nor will it! Can Carrara8.5 co-exist with Studio3?

...I don't see why not as Carrara accesses the Poser runtime for all Daz content.

In order to use Genesis though you will need the Genesis Starter Essentials. As I understand, you don't need to have Daz 4.6 installed, but not sure which folder they need to install to in that case.

The biggest change was the ability to load Genesis and other DSON format files. There were also new animation and posing tools added. Carrara 8.5 has been updated to run on Windows 8 and MAC OSX 10.7 and 10.8 (Windows Vista and 7 as well as OSX 10.6 are all supported).

You don't need CMS to run Carrara 8.5. However, if CMS isn't running you own't be able to use the Smart Content. If you install Carrara 8.5 using the DAZ Install Manager it will install CMS. If you are completely uninterested in CMS and Smart Content you can use the Bitrock Installers for Carrara 8.5 and skip it entirely.

    **Edit** Here's the setup-guide: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/carrara/8_5/userguide/getting_started/tutorials/setup_guide/start

Yea, I know, and that's nice of them - just pointing out that you may run into problems in other places. If they go legal you may be forced to either return the item or pay the difference. But I guess it has to be a large amount before anyone will do that.
