.duf files not being found/recognized

Wondering if there is a fix so that my DAZ3D program will recognize/find .duf files that it says aren't found, but are there.  When trying to open up G3, G8, and other figures, the program tells me that:

"Could not open file : /People/Genesis 2 Male/Genesis 2 Base Male.duf  File does not exist."

Yet, when I right click on the icon, and tell it to browse to the file location, the file is exactly where it should be.

I have quite a few of these files that are where they shoud be but the program isn't reading them.  They seem to be outside any of the folders in the My DAZ 3D Library > People folders.  Not sure if that has an impact.

Any help or suggestions would be awesome!  Thank you.

  • Find Genesis 2 Starter Essentials in the products tab of Samrt Content and right-click on it - does the menu offer, among other things, Uninstall or Install? If it has Uninstall then - as far as DS is concerned - the item was installed with Connect and the fiels you are probably looking at, from an Install Manager installation, are not relevant even if you are double-clicking on one of them to load the figure. Choosing the Uninstall option in that case may fix the issue for you.

Thank you.  I did right-click on some of the files and there was an "install" option - this fixed some of them.  Others I still have that error, can still go to the file location and they are there, but there is no 'uninstall' option.  Any other suggestions?  Should I try reinstalling those files?

  • If it has neither Install nor Uninstall it isn't the product icon you are right-clicking on (well, for items that can be installed through Connect).

  • I install everything through the Install Manager. I'm not sure what Connect is...is there anything else I should be trying?  I'm computer literate, but by no means an expert...so any suggestions would be welcome.

  • Connect is installing through DS - I'm not suggesting you do it, just trying to diagnose your issue with some content not loading.

  • I reset the DB and then re-imported the metadata.  This allowed me to re-install all the smart content files through the Connect.  they all now work (so far.).  Just in case anyone else was having an issue - this might help.

I recently had the same problem still in touch with Daz Techs over this. To get them back will take you hours depending how big your product list is. Doing this through DIM by uinstalling and reinstalling won't work as I tried that 3 or 4 times. so sorry but unless there is another work round you will have to do the following. Took me bloody hours over two days to do this but it was the only way to get them back/work properly angry. By the way you will have to do this with everything in your product list (Lights, Camers, Poses, Shaders etc)

In the Smart Content Tab select the Products Tab, uncheck the Filter By Context box if not already done. Starting at the top, in my case Lost and Found now expand it by selecting the diamond shape when done click on the first icon to highlight it, now select ctrl+a (if on pc) to select them all, right click again you should see the ability to uninstall and install, select uninstall, when done click on the Available Tab you should see them there. Right click on the first one then ctrl+a again to select them all, right click again select install this will get them back. When done work your way down the product list section by section, and do exactly the same but don't be tempted to do more than one section at a time.

You will notice that some will install very quick, some were that slow I went shopping with the wife smiley

To save some time don't bother trying to select any that may be there, just do all of them in each section this will save time in the end

    Good Luck

  • Oh, that sounds nasty... :(

Genesis and a few other things have just started doing this on my machine, with the error about telling me where it can't find the .DUF while I'm looking at the .DUF in explorer...

That uninstall and re-install everything by hand solution does not look fun :(

It isn't bloody fun I can assure you, but now got mine sorted with the help of the Daz Techs. Try the attached. Ensure your CMS is pointing to the ridght folder

  • first, sorry to necro a thread, but i'm having issues with this. Genesis 3 male. started happening immediately after adding Geometry Mirror for Genesis 3. thought that by uninstalling that product, this would be fixed. I tried the above method, it pulls down a file that has 'ryeddie' textures peppered throughout. Any ideas of what's causing this? I know what the base model is supposed to look like and what i get is nothing close.

Are you sure your problem is the same - in effect - as the original psoter's? It doesn't  sound like it, thugh it is hard t follow what is or isn't happening.

The RyEddie textures are Genesis 3 Male's base male textures. That's the name that was assigned to them. His textures were designed by Raiya and should be in the /Runtime/Textures/Raiya/Eddie directory in your content directory, or something similar. (I don't use Connect, so your directory structure may be different, but RyEddie is definitely supposed to be there.)

Apart from that, I'm afraid I don't have any helpful information.

It might be helpful to post screen shots and renders of what you're seeing.

Ok, so the textures are supposed to be there, thanks for providing that piece of information.  I've been working with so many different models as of late, with so many different textures, I may have transposed things in my mind.

What i'm getting now for all my base figures is this: "Could not open file : /People/Genesis 3 Male/Genesis 3 Male.duf  File does not Exist." I open up file explorer and I can clearly see the duf file. I can 'merge' the file just fine.  This is now affecting all my base models. This immediately happened after I downloaded and installed Mirror Geometry for Genesis 3 and 8 and attempted to use the one for Genesis 3. I don't use connect, Smart content or the manager. I do everything manually- I've had no trouble of this magnitude since I started using Daz studio three years ago.

How do I fix this?  How do i get Daz studio to see the duf file so that all i need to do is simply double click the icon in the library and have the asset load?

  • How do you install?

  • How do you install?

Took me an hour to figure out how to fix the issue, but once I confirmed my applied solution, everything works as it should in this regard.
