100% Disk usage

I always end up with 100% Disk usage when i use IRay or Render With DS-Why is that? I have a lot of free space on C:Drive 140 GB.
It makes my computer freeze for minutes on end and behaves strange - View port goes white and dissapears then comes back only to
go white again and then dissapear again.. With DS closed Disk usage is at 2-3 %

Anyone else has this problem?

  • I get the same problem as well. Only thing I could do about it is to lower the priority of Daz to Low in Task Manager. That gives me a few resources to perform simple tasks in the background.

  • Are you sure you mean "disk usage"? What you're describing sounds like memory usage, and you don't have enough to run an Iray render reliably. That freezing behaviour is very like what I used to have trying to run large DAZ|Studio renders on my previous computer, which didn't really have enough memory.

Yeah, I think "disk usage" in this case might mean disk bandwith usage and not disk capacity. That would make sense if you ran out of system RAM and your PC is using the disk drive as virtual memory, it would be running your drives at top speed trying to emulate RAM, but it wouldn't fill up the entire drive. Just a theory as I can't see what's happening.

As others have said, it sounds like you are exceeding the system RAM and the PC is using virtual memory. How much RAM does your system have?

Using virtual memory is always going to slow you down and more memory is best, but increasing the size of the page file may alleviate it somewhat.
