LAMH

Hello, everyone ... I am a new user and pretty new to this level of computer use in general.  Not dumb - I'm an MD - but a lot of this is pretty new to me, and I probably jumped in a little faster than I should have with installs.  I'm not looking to do full scene renders - I just want good .png files for single elements, to incorporate into other photo edits.  All of that said, I purchased Wolf 2.0 by AM.  I cannot for the life of me get fur on the wolf.  I have (allegedly) paid for and downloaded LAMH.  I have tried to review some tutorials.  Problem is that my screen looks nothing like their screen on the tutorial, so it becomes frustrating and unhelpful.  When the tutorial guy opens the LAMH wolf, it's covered with green cyber hair from the get-go.  Mine is completely naked.  I can't see where to look for LAMH in my system, so I can't see if it's installed.  I don't know whether the fur is in "materials" or in "hair," or somewhere else, or whether it ought to come up automatically.  My understand was there were some presets for the fur in this purchase - I would be happy with those at this point, but have no idea where to look.  Anybody have thoughts?  Thanks for any help you can give.

I'm a new user and I have purchased LAMH, but I can't see that it has been installed.  I have the Wolf 2.0 by AM, but the LAMH models load completely naked - it looks from tutorials like I should see something immediately.  I am assuming LAMH was not installed.  Don't know where to find it now or how to get it up and running.  Tutorials online don't seem helpful, as they seem to assume that LAMH is installed and running - doesn't seem to be, in my case.  Spent hours on it yesterday.  Frustrating.

  • Does it appear in Help>About Installed plug-ins? Have you registered the plug-in if it does?

Welcome to the Daz forums, alisa53.

LAMH (Look At My Hair) has a PDF file that explains how to install. There is a link to that PDF file in the product Readme file. Have you tried those instructions yet?

There seems to be some kind of hold-up on the install.  It has downloaded, but it will not install.  The requirements and installation section of the LAMH instruction manual does not help, because it assumes you have been able to install the plug-in.  I can't seem to do that.  When I hit "install" it seems to zip through the install in half a second, and I still show that I have one install waiting in my queue - so it did nothing.  I do have the serial number and everything else I need now to get going - but I have to get the install to work.

Can you install other content files and plugins? Is there any pertinent error message in the DIM log? You can find the log by clicking the gear icon in the upper right corner of the DIM screen and click the Show Log... button on the bottom left.

I have not had trouble with any other content installations.  Everything else has worked smoothly.  I'll check the DIM log when I get back to that computer this evening.  Thanks for sticking with me on this.  I feel like it's somehow just a simple fix, but I'm not sure what.

In another thread, a user was having a similar problem with some content continually failing to install, but that content installed OK for other users. Richard had this suggestion, which worked for her.

In DIM you can right-click on a package in the Ready To Install tab to delete it. It does sound like a possible cache issue - you could try downloading from your Product Library page, then move the zip into your DIM downloads folder and see it it will work that way.

I'm not sure if that suggestion will work for a plugin, but it is worth a try. Select the correct download link for your operating system, of course. winkYou can use the gear icon in DIM again to check on where DIM is storing the downloaded zip files, if you don't know were that is.

I don't think you mentioned whether you were using a Mac or PC. Sometimes Mac can be more problematic with things like this, so if you are using Macintosh, speak up about that. I'm a PC gal, but we have another community volunteer who can specifically help with Mac issues.

OK - a little bit of success!  It now seems to be installed and I see it in Help > About installed plugins.  The plug was initially yellow, but I restarted and it's green now.  HOWEVER - I have never been asked to register the product and I'm not sure how to go about that.  It is not showing up anywhere on my screen - maybe because it's not registered?

Woo-hoo!  It seems to be.  Now I just have to learn how to use it!  Time for tutorials!  I really thank you for the help!

Seems to be *working* that is.  Thanks.

    yes

Are you rendering in 3Delight or Iray? There is a second plugin called LAMH 2 Iray Catalyzer to make Iray rendering easier, but it only works for LAMH products made by Alessandro_AM.

  • alisa53alisa53 Posts: 157

I would be rendering in Iray, so I'll look for that plug-in, as I'm working with the Wolf, and that's an Alessandro_AM product.  I do seem to have a new problem, however.  I can load the wolf and can see the green fur follicles.  This is big progress.  BUT... I don't seem to have the LAMH tab on my tool bar.  In most tutorials I see that the LAMH tab is in the left tool bar below install and smart content, etc.  I believe that's what launches the LAMH player.   So I still am unable to apply fur. I don't know if I have to manually load the player to that tool bar, or if it should have automatically showed up there.  Any thoughts about that?

You need to dock the tab there yourself. From windows - tabs ... you should see a LAMH tab available - click it to open it. Dock it by dragging to where you want it (this will only work while you have docking unlocked - it's one of the options from the Windows menu in DS I can't remember exactly where and I don;t have DS installed on this laptop to check)

Yes!  Just accomplished that.  So now on to tutorials.  Thank you again for your patience and help.  Sucks to be a complete newbie, but every day is a learning experience! wink

Just keep at it, and you will get there. We were all new once and remember the struggles. There are a lot of people in the forum to help you. You chose a particularly difficult task to start with - LAMH. Even those of us have been using Daz Studio for years still struggle with LAMH.

  • Hi I am having the same problem here too, can't get LAMH hair to install.

I am on a PC not using DIM installing manually.

Not showing up in tabs or about installed plugins

Did you follow the installation instructions on page 5 of the PDF file (linked in a message above and in the product readme file)?  There is a link on that page for technical support, too. I've never manually installed LAMH, so I have no advice beyond that.

  • Skip LAMH and get the Catalyzer for LAMH instead - Use the Safe mode and renders come out perfect...

For the supported items - Alessandro's anaimals, mainly. It isn't useful for other products, or for creating your own hair sets.
