Hi, I'm new here, and am using an older v. of Carrara, (4/Pro) but am happy with it so far.
I wonder if there are any models of the Earth, or specifically, an Earth map wrapped around a sphere I could hollow out for a logo. and also some models of the atom, featuring atomic structure, with neutrons, protons, and electrons. I guess I could build this as well, but am not quite advanced enough, so would appreciate if there was a free sharing resource available.
Thanks,
Keith
PS, I don't suppose SketchUP models can be imported into Carrara, though I'd be delighted to hear it.

you should be able to find earth maps online for free that you can wrap around a sphere.
Dont know about the atoms but you might be able to find some free props somewhere online as well though you shoudl be able to build one very quickly
thanks Matty, I found plenty of earth maps on Google Images, and am having trouble importing into Carrara. I do File>Import and the choices (files on desktop) are all greyed out. I converted the saved jpg to several formats the book says I can import as 2D - such BMP, Tiff, PSD and others....but it won't import. I also tried copy and paste without results. It should be easy, but it's not happening. I'm probably not doing something right,
As for the atom model, you're right, it should be simple enough to create by bunching a lot of spheres together to form a proton nucleus, and then having some outlying smaller spheres for electrons. I'd like to show the electron paths as decaying lines, but not sure how to go about.
any help on the first question esp. is appreciated,
k.
Flipmode has a solar system model: http://www.daz3d.com/fm-solar-system
and recently this Earth/moon bundle was released: http://www.daz3d.com/earth-moon-super-bundle

SCIENCE!!!! And because NASA is a government agency the models are all public domain.
