I saw the directions in the other post but it is for DS4.5 I have DS4.5 Pro running on 64 bit Windows 7

Girbaldi Hair (Think I spelled that right) C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ3DIM1\ "Do I stop here, or is there more or is it different

or is it

C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\ with the same as above ... stop here or what?

Look At My Hair (will have program and freebie do I need both? and do they go into the same place if I do? Read somewhere the program needed the freebie to be able to view something

C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ3DIM1\ "Do I stop here, or is there more or is it different

or is it

C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\ with the same as above ... stop here or what?

Cararra 8.5 Think I know this one but just to be sure C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\and new folder named Carrara8.5 to allow it to run with 8 as separate programs Is this correct??

Dress Shop No friggin clue, think it is a stand alone that means just download the install from my Library and click the install.

I do have other questions (I know that just thrills everyone ;-P) But I wanted to start little (right little) so that other questions don't get missed.

As always I appreciate the all the help that is offered.... So a big thanks to everyone

What are you asking? Where plugins go? In general they will decide for themselves - if you get a location prompt, with a BitRock installer, it will be for associated content files. In any event, C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ3DIM1\ is the DAZ Install Manager - nothing else goes in there. A plugin would usually go in the application folder, in the plugins folder for DS, but as I said you wouldn't normally expect to direct it there yourself.

First let me correct myself it is DS4.6 Pro on windows 64bit Windows 7

Yes the question is where to install plugins with Install Manager.

I learned to my dismay early on, that it will put everything I install from the Install Manager into C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library unless I direct it to place it somewhere else.

I believe everything else is right, but most of what I buy is content and programs. I only just recently have done plugins and shaders. So I never asked about a path for those. I believe it was you who helped me set up paths in the beginning.

I am attaching a snapshot of the install path lists in the "Ready to Install" tab of the manager.

As you can see there is no path for plugins and shaders .... something I have to do I assume, and being new, I have no clue where to send them.

It is my assumption, that the way the rest of the paths are set, it will automatically install content to the My Daz Library folder ... Programs like Cararra to the appropriate C: folder .... and updates to the original folder the item was installed to (Right?)

Except for the case of Carrara 8.5 which I will need to create a new folder for to be able to keep Carrara 8 on my PC. Tha I belive I will have to do manually (my assumption again, feel free to correct me if I am wrong.)

Is it that I should not be using the install manager for some of the plug in programs listed and just download and manually install them. (For example Dress Shop showed up in the Ready to Download, but failed when I tried to download it, and Garibaldi Express Hair System did not even show up in the download) So I assume those are programs I have to manually install.

However if shaders have a specific destination I would need to know what it is as I recently purchased some.

DIM will install plugins/shaders to the appropriate folder for the application, ignoring the folder you have selected for content. Some shader products for DS/Poser also have presets which DO get installed to the selected content install folder.

So I should not put a path in that area at all? And am I correct with the rest above .... that it all needs to be manually installed?

I believe DIM will install Carrara 8.5 -- on the Settings > Installation tab in DIM you specify where 32-bit and 64-bit software should be installed (default being C:\Program Files (x86) and C:\Program Files for 64-bit Windows). DIM will create a "DAZ 3D\Carrara 8.5" folder in that location.

Thanks for being so patient with me, it is much appreciated.

When Carrara 8.5 came out I had asked about this, and was told it would have to be installed to a seperate folder made in C: and install into that folder or it would overwrite Carrara 8. So maybe I should wait for a while to install it until I know for sure.

So I am definately manually installing the other programs listed by downloading the .exe directly from My Library on site using those installers as opposed to the manager .... correct? I assume their install files will automatically place it where it needs to go.
