Light preset won’t load?

I downloaded a portrait light set from another CG site, and copied the files into the appropriate Daz folders (Light Presets and Runtime/Textures, IIRC). Since it doesn’t show up in Smart Content, I locate the presets in Content Library, but double-clicking a preset does nothing, no lights are loaded.  The undo command does show that I just loaded that particular light preset, however. Loading one of the Daz included light sets from the Smart Content window works as expected. I’m almost positive I placed the files in the correct folders.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

  • Have you checked the log (Help>Troubleshooting>View Log File) after  loading to see if there are errors? Is it a freebie, if so you could link to it and that may help to ffer useful information.

  • Thank you Richard, I will check that when I get back to the computer. It is a paid set from Renderosity, which I will link to if viewing the log file doesn’t lead to a solution.

On a somewhat related note, after 8 or so test renders, I began noticing that my Iray renders all had the exact same lighting, regardless of what changes I made to the lights in the posing window (probably not the right term, I’m a Daz newbie). From just doing a bit of Google searching, I’m learning I need to familiarize myself with Environments and Tone Mapping in the render settings menu, and understand that many of the light settings that have noticeable affects in the posing window will not show up in the Iray renders. Does this sound like I’m on the right track?  I really don’t want all my renders to have the exact same lighting! :-)  Thanks again...

  • The Texture Shaded preview will not sure environment lighting, whicb is usually strong enough to swamp any local lights (or emissive surfaces). When adjusting lighting you may want to use the nVidia Iray preview mode, in the Aux Viewport if not in the main viewport (preview mode is the sphere icon next to the camera/view picker button at top-right of the viewport you are using).

Thank you for your assistance, Richard.  I am now able to have my Iray renders actually display the lights I create, and not the default lights.  However, I am still unable to load any light preset from my Content Library.  The set I'm attempting to use is Ultimate Environment - Portrait by vyktohria.  https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/?ViewProduct=121839 Checking the log file reveals a series of several "WARNING: libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile" messages within the same second I load the preset.  However, after that, it says that the preset has been loaded.  Double clicking the presets that came with Daz (which are available in Smart Content) succesfully loads those particular lights.  I appreciate your willingness to help!

  • Although in the meantime, I’ve been learning a lot about creating my own lights for Iray rendering, so that’s a plus!  I’ve always been kind of an “edit the preset” type, but it’s nice being able to set up one’s own custom light sets.

  • I don't know why that set would not work - I assume it sets the Environment Mode to Dome or Dome and Scene (Render Settings pane Editor tab, in the Environment group) since it sounds as it is uses environment maps for the lighting.

  • Away from the computer right now, but are you saying that the light set might have loaded without me actually seeing any lights in the scene tab?  That’s where I was looking and when there were no lights there I figured it didn’t load. Unfortunately I haven’t yet learned the first thing about environment maps and how they relate to lighting. When I’m back I’ll load a preset and check it in Iray preview mode. In texture mapping preview mode the scene has no change in appearance when I load one of those presets, but if the light comes from an environment map maybe I need to be in Iray preview mode to see the change. Will try it in a bit. Thanks a lot!

  • Ah, right - if it's an HDRI environment set then yes, it would chnage the environment group in Render Settings rather than loading light objects - that's why it would need the included Headlamp blocker, since without a light node as such the headlamp would be on by default and would mess up the intended look.
