In Daz 4.10, I'm using the coat from the Daedalus character but when I apply the material, the coat vanishes when I render in Iray. It renders before I apply the material, but doesn't render after. Ideas?
Side note: I always find it interesting that some items have alternate material .jpg files that can only be found if you look in the Surface pane and click on the surface image. There are in this case a couple other .jpg material options. The one that is available as a material is the one that makes the coat vanish in my Iray render.
Iray will generally only render products which have been designed with Iray presets, while The Sky Mercenary is a Michael 3 outfit which is ancient and was around before Iray existed. I've been using Daz for 5 years but don't have a single M3 product it's so old. The Sky Mercenary should work fine with 3Delight.
Iray does render when no new material is applied, but the coat then looks like it is made of yellow plastic and not tan leather which is what I'm after.
I don't know how to determine the specifics of a material. Just as I don't know how to determine when a product was made. The Daedalus coat does have this other material option that can be applied and that's what makes the coat vanish or at best become transparent. I tried to apply an Iray uber base to the coat, but that didn't help the situation. The product page says it is compatible with Daz and Poser.
If you apply the preset, then with the coat still selected go to the Editor tab of the Surfaces pane and click on the coat you will see the shader used listed at top-left (if it says <multiple> you will need to expand the entries for the coat and click on them one by one). What does it say?
Looking at the product page it says "MAT poses to correctly load the textures; specific materials for Poser4, Pro Pack, Poser 5/6, and DAZ|Studio." I expect each is in its own folder, so which are you using?

Which Daedalus character?
The Sky Mercenary.

Would applying an Iray material help?
I've never encountered an item that refused to render in Iray. Perhaps there should be some sort of warning on products with such limitations?
Content without a native DS version will be using the Daz Default Shader after import, and Iray should be able to handle that.

Unfortuantely my content drive is having issues so I can't test. Is the material you are using marked as being for Poser 5+ only?
