Problems with wings on Infernal Succubus sku #47997

Hello,

I just purchased the item above [Infernal Succubus sku #47997] and I was careful to read the whole thing and it says that it only needs a Genesis 8 Female body to work.  Given all that it came with, it was on sale and I thought it is a good deal and bought it.   Naturally the first thing I did was set up a new Genesis 8 female character and I plopped the wings right on her.  I initially got a message asking what I was trying to do and it said where the wings were from.   Out of the selection list Genesis 8 Female wasn't there, but Genesis 8 Male was, so I selected that.  I was presented with another list as to were to put the wings and I think the choices were head, eyelash, and full body, so I chose the latter.  The wings came up and were seemingly attached to the back.  I tried the poses out that came with the package and they didn't work.  When I tried to move the wings, they affected the arms and there was parts of the wings that stayed in place and that caused some texture tearing.  Figureing I did something wrong, I started all over again, but this time selected 'none' instead of 'Full Body'.   Again the wings didn't work.  When I went to select them, they just came loose from their point on the back.

Now I don't know if this is an issue with the product or how I am trying to attach the wings?   I have another package that has wings in it and that worked fine with the wings properly attaching to the back of the figure and I could move them independently.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Geo

  • You didn't have Genesis 8 Female on the list because that is the figure you had selected - that's the AutoFit dialogue for fitting items made for one figure to the current. The other list button in that dialogue is asking what type of clothing the item is. Are you sure you were loading the right wings?

Ok, I played around with it a bit more and I think it might have been because I was using a figure I made some alterations to.   I had an issue with the vanilla Genesis 8 figure as well with the wings attaching to the arm movements.   Yes, I am loading the right wings.  There are two sets of the same wing.  One says 'Iray' something or other and it is marked yellow.  If I click on that set of wings, it (for some reason) wraps itself completely around the arms as if they were opera gloved.  Then there is another set that is labeled in green.  Those are the ones I used.   But last night I tried it again, but this time I loaded the complete outfit (minus clothing) on a vanilla Genesis 8 figure.  Then it didn't come up with the message box asking where the wings came from and it appeared to load the wings up properly on the back.  Checking the movement, they moved independently of the arms.   So figuring that was it, I continued to play with the wings to get them out of the way so I can make the necessary body alterations.  Low and behold, the wings pulled loose from the back again.   So I put the wings back and then I set the pin to 'fixed'.   Now, when I moved any other joint on the wing exept that one that goes  into the back, it no longer pulled loose from the body.  Only if I select that joing and try to move it, it comes loose.   I have noticed the same thing happening with the tail.  As long as I set the pin on the first joint that enters the body and do not touch that joint I can position the tail via any other joint, and even pull and tug on it and it will not come loose.

I find it odd that the add-on items such as the wings and tail come loose to begin with.   Was this an oversight in the package's creation?  Is this just the way Daz Studio works?   I don't know.  Perhaps you could give me some more insight on this.   I just know that after extensive looking around for a Maleficent fairy type character, I came across the Infernal Succubus and I just felt it was a really good value for what it all came with.

I also think it was a good idea to start with the base Genesis 8 female first.  I found out that many adjustments I made to the ears would have had to been redone to accomodate the horns.  I wanted my character to have elf / fairy type ears, but I couldn't use the ones that are swept back.  I had to use elf ears that came straight out.  There is JUST enough room for the ears to pass under the horns.  It looks amazing!

But now I have to go back and make the changes in the body again.  BUT I guess that is a good thing in that I need the practice anyway.   There is defintely a learning curve to this, but thankfully it doesn't seem to be as steep as Blender.   I am STILL trying to find my way around that one.

    Thank you,

    Geo

  • Had you used the File>Save As>Support Assets>Figure prop Asset command on your modified figure? That would probably account for DS thinking it needed to AutoFit the wings (and probably other fitted items) even though they were made for Genesis 8 Female.

Sorry, I am late responding... Holidays and all.  No, I have not tried that. What I ended up doing was pining the wings to the back, but it is temporary and I have to do it each time I load the figure, which is not convenient.  ALso, the wings still can come off of i select the bone that goes into the back and pull on it.  If I choose any other wing bone, it stays attached.  I am not sure if this is the right way to do this or not and would like to know if there is a better, more permanent way to do it.

    Thanks
