Some Skin Textures and Eye makeup not working eyebrows disappear.

Hello All,

I am new to Daz 3D, just starting this week.  I have dropped some coin on some necessary packages and also on some packages that I liked.  So this is what I have now:

Install Manager Ready*
ild Winds Bundle     55897 $62.95
The Power Pump for Genesis 8 Female(s)     50793 $17.95
Karyssa 8 Pro Bundle     49305 $134.95
Infernal Succubus Outfit and Add-Ons for Genesis 8 Female     47997 $22.95
Dreamcastle     5895 $21.95
Platinum Club Plus Quarterly Membership     PC-Quarterly $24.00
Rylee for Genesis 8 Female     49515 $18.95

Genesis 8 Female Body Morphs     42073 $19.95
Genesis 8 Female Head Morphs     42075 $19.95
Melo Hair for Genesis 3 and 8 Female(s)     52123 $23.95
LY Zara HD for Genesis 8 Female     46815 $18.95
Minami HD and Minami Hair for Genesis 8 Female(s)     50437 $29.95
dForce Miellyn Outfit for Genesis 3 and 8 Female(s)     48921 $37.95

I made sure that I picked out items that where for the Genesis 8 female as that is the body type that I am going to be mostly working with.   The first one I tried out was Rylee and everything there worked fine.

But going to one of the other ones there, I have noticed that when starting out with a base Genesis 8 Female figure, not everything worked.   For example the Karyssa Pro Bundle came with several characters for Gen 8.   Some of the skin textures didn't work and also some of the face makeup choices didn't work.  I was curious as to why.   I am sure it is something I am doing wrong, but what actually.   Granted I have NOT tried to dial in the full character and worked from there.  What I did was create my own with the Gen 8 female as a base.  As an example, I would click on a makeup style and the program 'appears' to load it and it showes up in the undo history queue.   So the program is applying it, but I don't see any change on the figure's face.   This seemed to be the case with a particular style.  All the colors iterations wouldn't work either.  Now on the SAME  page, if I chose a different style of makeup, sometimes it would work.

I experienced this issue with skin textures and colors too.  Some would work, some wouldn't work.  However, I have noticed that most would erase the eyebrows. Not something I would always want to do, but I can see how erasing eyebrows could actually be an advantage as it would allow me to choose a different eyebrow set.

I think it is that I am just lacking the understanding of how skin textures and makeup works.   I found body / face shaping to come fairly easily and also posing seems to be fairly straight forward as it uses a node system akin to Miku Miku Dance which is another 3D program I have used in the past.   So not too many issues there, I am still learning much though.

I just need some pointers and hints on what to do when dealing with skin and makeup and find out what it is that I am doing wrong.

Thank you,

Geo

  • Please stop posting those tables with the download links - I don't think they will work for non-purchasers, but they still aren't needed and shouldn't be posted.

Have you tried rendering? If you are in Texture Sahded preview then makeups that use Diffuse Overlay won't show, only in renders or in the Iray preview mode.

Sorry about that, I didn't know that was a taboo thing to do.  Usually when it comes to getting help or assistance, I try to provide as much information as possible.  I just wanted to show what items I had and I certainly wasn't going to type them out by hand.  That takes up too much time.

Yes, I have tried it on a render and those items DO show up.  But a render takes a long time.  You mentioned seeing them in an Iray preview...is that faster than a render?  How is that done?   As it is going back and forth waiting for a render to complete just to see a makeup pattern on the face is a bit counter productive.  So I am hoping there is a faster way to do this.

    Thank you,

  • It's OK, and probably more useful, to post to the product page in the store.

Iray preview mode is faster than a full render - it's not too bad even with my 750Ti, thougu I wouldn't use it for posing just once I was around to lights and materials. If you click the little spheer icon next to the camera/view picker menu at top-right of the Viewport it's at the bottom of the list of modes.

Oh, so there is another view mode?  As of now I been clicking on the last camera icon on the top row, but I am assuming that is the full render.  So the right of that is this sphere icon?  In there I can switch the viewport mode?

Alright, I will check that out.

    Thank you,

  • Yes, there are a number of modes - bounding box, a couple of wireframe options, smooth-shaded options, and textured options plus cartoon and Iray. The Draw Settings pane allows you to control what the Iray mode does (while it is active  -you can't use the pane to set options in advance). Depending on your system you will get a smooth-sahded view for a few moments while the scene is uploaded to iray, then you will get a limitd number of iterations from the render.

You can also use the spot render tool to check such things as makeup by selecting an area in the viewscreen using your mouse. Only the selected area will then render and by selecting the area around the eye, for example, you will see the eye makeup, etc. It is much quicker than rendering your entire scene. Clicking on the viewport will return you to the regular view.

P.S. There are often separate eyebrows included with some characters that appear as separate items in your scene when applied. I have several Mousso characters and some do, while others do not have separate eyebrow options. The latter allow you to modify the eyebrows in ways not possible with eyebrows that are embedded as part of the diffuse maps. If the makeups do not include options with or without eyebrows, that might explain why they are disappearing. You can try using the separate eyebrow props to replace missing eyebrows, if necessary, and they should work across different characters.

Yes, I got to this point.  Thank you, it is a help as I can have the Iray render in the view port and then select the makeup styles or skin details that wouldn't show up before.  So that does help even though I do have to wait a bit.

I will also try that with the spot rendering.   As for the eyebrows, I was looking into ways to remove the eyebrows so I can add them on the vanilla Gen8 body...but then I found out when you add textures to the skin, it often makes the eyebrows disappear!  But yeah, I been looking into that skin creator package and it comes with replacement eyebrows and some pretty nice looking ones too.  So I might get that package since it comes with quite a bit.

    Thank's for the help!
