Can't select lips only in Layered Image Editor

After I repaint a skin in photoshop, I have gone to the figure, select the face with the surface selection tool, in surfaces tab, I opened LIE and browse to the image, apply it as a new layer in LIE- but the lips and ears stay the original color. I can select the lips with the tool but then to browse it sends me back to the whole face-

Why is the LIE ignoring the color for the lips when it takes the whole rest of the face? And how can I color the lips only , or preferably, get LIE to take the whole painted face?

Lips and ears are separate surfaces. You have to select them in the surfaces pane and apply LIE to them, too.
