Weird artifacts with Ryan hair

I have a problem with Ryan hair producing real weird artifacts in one scene.

As soon as I remove the hair, it's fine.

I tried turning the cap invis, but that didn't help either.

Does anybody have a clever idea?

  • It's something that happens sometimes due to an Iray bug. Making the cap transparent doesn't help, but you can work around it by selecting the cap surface in Geometry Editor and then hiding it there.

Alternatively, the bug seems more likely to occur the more distant the character is from (0,0,0), so if you shift everything in your scene - character, scenery, lights, camera - so the character is in the centre of the world, it should look exactly the same but without the bug. I posted a script in this thread: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/284301/my-first-script-feedback-sought ; to do all this rearranging work in one click.

Last resort: Do a full render with the bug. Do another with no hair (actually, just a spot render of that part of his head would do), and combine the two in photoshop or similar.

  • thank you! :)

already knowing what it is helps
