Best Way To Download Products: DIM or Daz Connect?

LenioTGLenioTG Posts: 2,118

Hi everyone! :D
I'm a little bit confused: how should I download my products?

I'm currently using both Daz Install Manager and Daz Connect, but my fear is that, this way, I'm duplicating the files on my Hard Drive.

When I download something with DIM, then Daz Studio still shows it as it's not installed.

I've checked the destination folders, they're fine.

I'm uploading an image of the usage of my drive: DIM download folder is in green, and it takes 15Gb; "My Daz Connect Library" is in blue, and it takes 17Gb (I've probably installed more files there), "My library", at the end, is in purple and it takes 33Gb (I have some freebies too).

What's the best way to install products from Daz Shop? And how could I save some space without sacrificing anything?

Thanks! :D

  • A product installed with DIM should have the circled triangle icon at top-right of its thumbnail in DS, showing that it can be isntalled via Connect, but its thumbnail should be in colour and it shoudl be usable as is. If the thumbnail is grey and double-clicking the product initiates a download or pops up the log-in dialgue (depending on whether you are working on  line or off) then soemthing is going wrong with the installation or with DS' communcation with the CMS.

Ah, now I get it, thanks! :D
I thought that triangle meant that I couldn't use that product :)

So, I've installed everything twice, right?

  • Yes, and DS will ignore the DIM install if there's a Connect install - in geenral, if drive space is an issue, Connect is as good as and possibly better than DIM as its fiels will always be compressed while DIM's may or may not be.

Thank you for your answers! :D

But keep in mind that some products don't work correctly when installed with Daz Connect. Some older script products fall into this category.

    Thank you barbult! :D

I've started using Daz around a year ago, and I've started to buy products 2 months ago, so I don't have any old script! :D

I don't want to open another thread, so I'll ask here: where can I see the progress of my Daz Connect downloads?

I know there's that "pending" tab under "smart content->products" or "install", but I'd like to have a percentage bar, with Gb, download speed etc.: do we have one?

  • No, if you have the Status Bar enabled it has a progress bar (unlabelled) but as far as I can tell that's going by number of files, not size. The thumbnail in the content views also shows progress by turning from grey to colour from the top, but again I think that's by number of files rather than data size.

    Okay, thank you again :D
