No fall off for linear point lights in Iray?

I've been unable to find the fall off control for linear point lights in Iray. I assume it's not there, but I'm asking just in case.

If it's indeed not there, if there any point in using a linear point light in Iray (again, I assume not, but I'm asking just in case I would miss something)?

Someone more knowledgeable will probably want to chip in, but afaik, you can't change the fall off, since the renderer is based on real world values.

I think you need to use an area light in Iray , or in the point light settings check if in parameters you can change the settings to give your lights a real world size.

  • Yes, Iray uses real-world behaviour of light (as far as practical) which means intensity always decays with the inverse square of distance from the source.

Thanks. That's what I suspected. So, linear point lights in Iray are useless, or have they some other unobvious property that still could be useful?

  • Linear point lights are just treated as regular point lights in Iray
