render won't complete

My renders won't complete.    I don't know how else to explain the issue.  

Attached is a screenshot of my render settings and a bit of the completed render.  I've tried changing the minimum samples, etc. =[

Absolutely no idea what is going wrong.

    You can check the log, but usually, increasing the Maximum render time, an D samples is a good start.

    I found a(n awkward) solution:   Remove all Canvases.   Render went thru fine.

    Go figure.  =[
