O.K. Maybe some one could shed some light on this one.Have slowly gotten better at installing content.I load one thing at a time and then go in and make sure everything installed right.i've been working on two pieces as a little training thing for myself ..one is an elvin figure..and one is just a straight character workup just as something to use to see if i can actually work my way from creation to final render and post work. The elvin thing is about 50%..the straight character is ready for lighting and final rendering9listen to me it almost sounds like I know what I'm talking about)Any way I took a break...surfed a little, checked my mail, downloaded a few things from renderosity and noodled around for a few minutes and then decided to load some things up but,...somehow when i re opened DAZ...All my files were gone.Naturally I did the only sane thing you can do in a situation like that and began throwing stuff all over and screaming some choice words out the window.I tried to read the log...but couldn't really make heads or tails of it other than I think it said "You're screwed " some where along the line.i checked into my security and virus tools and tried to undelete everything from the whole day an sure enough it seemed as though a lot of my files were there...maybe ..it was hard to tell because for some reason it decided to start recovering all the files on its own...it took a good 10 to 12 minutes and it looked ok.I went back into studio and I swear for a second it looked like things were there but i must have been drinking because in a flash there was still nothing. Now i'm bummed and freaking because i'vwe lost everything lost the stuff I was working on and even though it seemed as though files were coming back they didn't.i was going to try a system restore as a last ditch effort but decided to check install manager first .I opened it logged in and before I could check anything else out got a message saying there was an upgrade to DIM and did I want to get the newest version so i did..Great time for this to happen. While it was up dating I could see under downloads that there was nothing installed, nothing waiting to get installed and nothing downloaded..then right after the update was finished I noticed that install management now read that I had 18 things installed9the correct amount.)so I once again opened Studio..and now everything was back, only all of the blue /yellow boxes were now almost all grey.I also noticed a content folder which I don't remember seeing. So I have many questions.Where did all my files go?Why Did they suddenly come back and did the updating of install management have anything to do with it or was it just coincidence?
Also on a side note I have a runtime folder that shows up in windows but doesn't show up in studio.is this normal?not normal>i only ask because I installed a few things that i couldn't find that ended up in that folder which is why i couldn't find it in studio...please tell me I don't have to un install every thing that's getting old and increasingly difficult as I obtain more content...sorry this was so long but you know you love these riddles..any way any insight would be greatly appreciated.I'm happy just to have my 2 little crappy pieces of art back that I can at least continue to work on.thanks...raykat

For some reason your Content Management Service stopped running. That caused all the SMART to stop, hint everything is still there just not smart anymore. The Content Library Tab and the Sections DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats are all we HAD before Smart, which as you know know breaks from time to time. The CMS runs the Metadata in a Database to make things Smart but is NOT needed. The new DIM install also updated (Turned ON the CMS) so it could read your Database so yes that Helped you out. And Last but not least the Runtime folder that is Inside the DAZ content folder IS the Poser Formats section in the Content Library Tab. DAZ Studio has always worked this way as far as content goes. A Poser Runtime in the DAZ folder because DAZ Studio was made to use Poser content before DAZ3D sold it's own content.

    Thanks for your help.
What i meant about runtime(which in itself is highly confusing)is that I dont see a folder for it ant where in daz studio. It shows up in my files in my computer but i dont see it in daz studio.Should i have one there?

No, the Runtime folder and the folders within it are hidden -when you go to Poser Formats>Folder that holds the Runtime in the Content Library pane what you see are the contents of Runtime\Libraries\Character under Figures, Runtime\Libraries\Pose and Pose and so on. All the other folders are invisible in the interface as they don't contain user-files.

Try reading through this post I made, it'll probably help in understanding the whole file structure thing.

It's a bit long and i'll be updating as necessary for corrections and clarifications.
