Aww. I never read the books, but I loved the video games that were based on them.

That's a shame. The Hunt For Red October was the first book I read in one sitting, just couldn't put it down.
    RIP Mr. Clancy

same here, the best gaming moments in my life were in Ghost Recon and the Rainbow Six series on PC.

Read more than a few of his novels back in the nineties when they came out. They were definitely involved page turners. With the games and movies, he leaves a legacy behind.

I was swapping computers out today for a co-worker and the default MSN page popped up and I saw the announcement. I was surprised and saddened by it.

...loved his books and loved the films.

Never played any of the video games, however, his work had a major influence on many of my Shadowrun RPG scenarios including the one that Leela came from.

That's Terrible. My two favorite novelist are Philip K. Dick and Tom Clancy.

A sad thing. I did a bit of a double-take when I heard it on the radio - didn't quite catch the name only that 'renowned author' had died and then the name of another, extant author who had good things to say, so I got confused! As is the way with the news these days all I had to do as wait 15 minutes and it was re-announced. The books were good, the films I enjoyed (less so the Harrison Ford portrayal of Jack Ryan), and the only games I played were sub games (one based on Red October on the Atari ST and one on PC called 'SSN' (or something like. It was waaaaaay too real as I could never finish the final section as the enemy subs ran too quiet for me to find in time!))

He had a rare talent for bringing truth to light in a manner of speaking through the fiction he wrote.
