hi guys
few days ago i made a custom character using genesis on DS4.6 , i saved a support asset to create a companion file to use my character also with poser , but now , everytime i start DS4 , my character is loaded in the viewvport , but i need it to load genesis.
i tryed to check into preference4s and the startup path is correct xxxx/xxxx/blablabla/my library/people/genesis.
is it possible to restore the program in order to make it load genesis with no morphs on the start up operation ?
EDIT
i forgot to say , whenever i load genesis from the content library it get loaded as a custom character and not as a base figure , so any character i load looks like the character i created

Think you might have overwritten the base genesis character.
I've done this a couple times myself.(we will not discuss how many times i've had to reinstall the base obj and skin for V4)
Generally i set up a specific folder for any tweaking and twiddling(customization) i do to characters.
This usually eliminates the chance(at least lowers it) that i bullocks something up.
Try reinstalling genesis and see if that fixes the problem
First put the custom character in a folder by itself, then reinstall.
after i came out the desperation phase that's the first thing i done yesterday , reinstalling genesis , the result was a mix between genesis and the character i created .
so i zeroed the figure and overwritten genesis on purpose , this worked for startup and for when i want to load genesis itself , but anytime i wanted to load another character the problem kept appearing.
so i reinstalled genesis again and now looks like it's working fine , i did'nt test everything yet , at the moment
i still cfan't figure why that is happened , i mean , i'm sure i never selected genesis.duf while saving my creation.
i can say that for sure as the icon for that figure never changed untill i decided to overwrite the figure on a purpose.
what i mean is that , when you save something you also create an icon for it , and if you overwrite a content the icon will be overwritten aswell , and this never happened untill i choose to do so.
i think there has to be a way to restore the figure to it's default state without overwriting anything ,i mean , the shapew has to be changed somehow , and one should be able to restore the content the same way he changed it ...theorically
used to see this problem a lot more with the older versions(4.0+) of daz, but hadn't encountered it lately.
I'll try a few tests and see if i can replicate the problem locally.
Probably a data file that is causing it.
Might want to check for recently modified versions, and try editing those(notpad++ works good, and it's free).
the version i'm using is 4.6.0.18
i don't know what you mean by editing with notepad , i'm afraid i would cause more problems than i want to solve like this.
anyway thanks for the replies and for your help !
When saving an asset it's not the name of the .duf file that matters - the Genesis, Victoria 5, Michael 5, Julie 5, Hiro 5 and so on .duf files all point to the same base files - it's the names in the option dialogue that comes up after the file name that matter. If you don't change them then all the changed values for morphs will be written over the original morph files with zero values, the only fixes are to zero the figure and save as an asset again or to reinstall all of the morphs used.
What you should do is save a Character preset, which creates the same kind of .duf file but without altering the underlying assets. That will work as the standard character files - if you have Genesis selected it will be modified, if not you will get a new figure.
i think i start to understand , but , instructions to create poser CF files says i have to save a support asset.
load the figure , save as support asset .duf , move to position in content library , select the saved item and right click content library / create poser companion file.
this was the instructions for DSF files.
but that was for clothing figures , saved as wardrobe.
so , if i create a character , based on genesis with some , or many dials turned to "1"shall i use the character preset save option ?
will i be able to create a poser CF like this ?
here i attached an image of the character i created , a smurfette like character , i think she's also cute !
my problem is that DS4 kep loading genesis with this shape , on startup and everytime i wanted to load genesis.
that was not much of a problem , all i had to do was right click on parameters and choose zero figure.
problem was when i wanted to load a character preset or any scene file , avery genesis character in it was getting this shape mixed with the dials contained in that shape.
You need to save as an asset only if there isn't already an asset - a custom morph, for example, would need to be saved as a morph asset and a new piece of clothing or prop would need to be saved as a figure or prop asset. If your character uses morphs from other packs that you set then they all already exist as assets and you need only the preset.
thank you for the briefing , this is going to help alot the next time i create a character i need to save
hi guys.
i have to reopen this thread because i have a little problem.
if i save a character as character preset i can't create a poser CF from that DUF.
gves me this error :
"the following list of files could not be converted because they are of an unsupported content type or file extension"
