"Best" skin textures??

Hello everyone.

I´m really curious to get some opinions on what you guys consider the most attractive skintexture?
I tend to like rosy cheeked, "young", bright and fresh skin...for example Danae´s London (though I think it has some weird artifact around the nose :S )

You are also very welcome to share ideas and tips on ways to render really pretty skin :)

    I think that's very much a matter of one, what you find attractive and two, what your render style is; for e.g. if you render in a more toon style you will want less "realistic" textures that can still hold up well to SSS shaders and good lighting. If you have good mastery of your available shaders and lights, you can make most textures look at least pretty good; if you are completely tin-eared at it, you can make even the most detailed textures look awful (and I have seen it done with Danae's in some people's renders). When you see someone master their render engine, that, and not their choice of purchased skins, is what will produce a huge upgrade in how good their characters look.


    Overall I am not into bright and fresh for either sex, and yes, I'm aware that places me into a very small minority. I like perfect and ethereal in some characters (mostly male ones, as I'm a straight female), but overall I usually want more grit: visible pores, a little dinge around the edges, strong bump mapping, eyebrows that look made of hair and not paint, etc. I love Phoenix1966. I've seldom found a female equivalent of that style, for alas, MaskEdit left our market some time ago, but I still use his V4 PureSkins and Phoenix's Livia.

    My tip for rendering pretty skin is to buy a skin product that includes the promo lights (like Maelwyn's Angel)! I'm horrible at lighting so I always use pre-made sets, and if they come with the skin texture that gives you an idea of what you're getting.

    My personal taste is for "painterly" textures - illustration influenced more than photoreal. Silver, Surreality, and Raiya are the ones I buy the most from lately, with Raiya being a bit more toward the photographic side of things.

    All the DAZ Elite skin textures look great in DAZ Studio, Lana, Sol, Maya, AMy, Katie, Marie, Rob, Lee, they render very realistically.

    With skin, lights are important. And with Danae stuff, I like RDNA's TerraDome. Here i also use Forest Autumn as decor, available right here at Daz.

    Not sure if this'll help you, but the new today Dolled Up set has literal china-doll textures (Bisque, China, and Porcelain options).

    My personal preference in character skins usually runs both darker and (outside of children) older, so not much for you there either.

    What I don't like is diffuse textures with painted in shadows/ambient occlusion and specular highlights. They are very limiting, and tend to look fake.

    The promo renders Danae uses look good, but I have to say I was a bit disappointed after buying Dublin. It has texture maps for diffuse and specular, but no maps for bump or any of the other channels.

    I don't buy very many skin textures. Here, in no certain order, are *some* of the ones I'd consider the best:

    M4 Elite Texture: Rob
    V4 Elite Texture: Marie
    Ethnique: Kerry-Ann S4/V4
    Trey for M4
    Keisha for A4
    Camielle for V4
    Zena V4
    Zere for Vittorio 4
    Jepe's FGH M4
    Derek for M4
    Cherry Cola aka Mz Fevah for V4

    There are others, some older and from other sites. But these are the textures I buy.
