Product of the year 2018 in my mind

Every year we have different product of the year in our own minds. For me, 2018 belongs to https://www.daz3d.com/rssy-3delight-to-iray-converter . It does what it says it can do. Just run the provided script and it convert every single 3Delight item into iRay one VERY DECENTLY. No need to know anything else. Just don't know why this product is not hot much.

co-products of the year for me are the Ollie 8 & Edie 8 characters

  • I bought it solely on the strength of Sickleyield knowing her stuff in her tutorials and such, and tonight was my first time testing out.

What do you all use for leather - matte cloth?

(this is just a screenshot - its actually still rendering. But you can see it dia wonderful job on L'Elegante.)

I think both Fluidos and Visualmenus are also contenders. Visualmenus is the kind of tool you didn’t know you missed.

Yes, me too. It's not fool proof but it a gives a very decent start and takes the drudgery out of the conversion process. The ability to hand edit the suggested list whilst still in the script is great, for example in the attached image it turned the lamp posts emissive as well as the lamps but it was two clicks to correct. Used it lots :)

I saw this and thought, yes, I use that all the time maybe the most use of anything else in my library. Then it occurred to me that I've pretty much made the leap to Genesis 8 exclusively and use that on virtually every scene I build. However, it appears G8 was actually dropped in 2017. Now I'm back to agreeing with your assessment.

Does this one single product replace all the individual Iray add-ons that are being sold by PA's on their individual pre-Iray products?

The Iray add-ons are generally brand new textures with higher resolution than the originals, so I imagine you’d still see much better results with those than converting the old textures.

Ahhh that makes a lot of sense... thank you sir!

I want to understand what that is. I've tried. I'm not an idiot. In fact, I have a somewhat embarrassingly high IQ. But every time I try to read the thread in this forum where it's discussed exxxxxxhausssstivvvvvvvely, my SO finds me at some point in a coma on my computer desk.

Maybe I will try again. Wait. No. What am I saying ...

I wasn't really involved in 2018, but I certainly agree that that's a great product!

It's an addon/plugin for 3Delight to enable PBR style shaders, and IIRC it also speeds up rendering quite a bit on realistic renders. Great for anyone using 3Delight to render, irrelevant if you only use Iray.
