My biggest horror story, years ago i was going to upgrade my PC. took it to CompUSA with the new MOBO, HD and OS i wanted installed. I had 2 drives installed already and explicitly told them not to touch any of the data on the drives, but to install the new drive as my main drive with the new OS and make the existing 2 HDs slaves to it. On my secondary drive i had about 2500 songs d/led from various sites back when Napster was first launched and sites like it were popular . I also had a few photoalbums scanned and d/led to this drive also. I left my PC there and went to relatives for the holiday and came back a week later. Went and picked up my PC, got home, hooked it up, turned it on and after a little while realized my secondary drive was empty, no data, blank, nada! I went ballistic, called the store, got someone that was no help, so i went down there. i got into it with 4 incompetent employees and it got so out of hand, they called the police. Needless to say, although they gave me some store credit and a new HD, I have never done business with them again, told everyone I met not to either, lesson learned.
Dec 20 2012 my apartment burnt to the ground lost eight computers.
Had all my content backed up on Cd/dvd's stored in supposedly fireproof boxes Well the fire was hot enough that it destroyed not only the "fireproof"boxes but a small safe as well.
Am still trying to reinstall and categorize the content that I was able to redownlod but somethings are gone forever such as things from PoserPros, and The 3DCommune which no longer exist
Just a suggestion invest in a safety deposit box or somewhere off site to store your backups

For me 500 gig of data went south, the drive is still good just a freak of chance that when plugging in another external via a firewire port nuked the data on the other external drive.. Why now I have three 1 terabyte externals looking to get a 4th soon as running out of space.. lol
