need advice on the export workflow - mainly textures

I usually use Daz just to get a basic pose that I can paint over, but this time I wanted to get a realistic result after export.

I used a gen8 model and exported it to 3ds max via OBJ because I couldn't get fbx to work (not sure if that makes any difference regarding textures).

The first thing I noticed was that the skin looked like garbage compared to Daz's render. I put it down to the lack of specular info in the export.

So  I learned about the Texture Atlas export options and did that, but it only gave me diffuse, bump and normal. I spent about two days trying to figure all this out and could not figure out how to get specular info to export. In the end I just took the bumps and edited them in Photoshop and put those in the reflection channels. As such, you could really see the seams because they obviously weren't matching up.

*when I looked at the glossy channels inside Daz, it was just color info, no textures at all. Yet, in the Iray render you could clearly see really nice specular detail.

Any advice on how to match the realism would be much appreciated. I've lost hair over this I swear! :p
