Dramatically Speed Up Export!

I'm a total DAZ newbie, and expect this post will earn me many snorts :-) but anyway, here's something I found helpful.

As you surely know, rendering with Iray takes forever.  You might grow old and die before your animation is fully rendered.  As a total nube who is just playing around, I simply don't have the patience for that, so I found a work around that allows you to export your animation at full speed.  As example, if you've created a 5 minute animation, you can turn it in to a movie in 5 minutes.

1) Go to the little lines icon in the upper right corner of the Viewport and turn off gird lines and controls, so that they don't appear in the Viewport.

2) Run your animation.

3) Screen record the Viewport! :-)

That's all there is to it.

Ok, sure, yes, yes, the image quality will not match an Iray render.  But if you're just fooling around, the image quality in the Viewport aint' bad, good enough for government work.

If you want to be fancy, you can take your video and green screen the background out in a video editor like Hitfilm.  Now your character is on a transparent background and can be layered on top of any other video.  (Be sure your character does not contain the color of the Viewport background.)

Tired of waiting 22 days for your animation to render?   Just a hobbyist and not a professional?

Screen record the Viewport, export in real time.

Ok, I'm done.  It's time for you to do your job here.  Start snorting!  :-)

    Hi :D

I'm not doing any animation, but this sounds like an "OpenGL" render!

When I want to render an image into different part, I make an OpenGL render (go to Render Settings) to see where to place stuff in the composition! Its purporse it's to translate what you're seeing in the preview in a final product! In the preview you can set whatever you want to (texture shaded, iray etc.), at different resolutions and settings (look in "Draw Settings" tab)

yes openGL is what you see is what you get and usually very fast

if I am compositing the hell out of something I often use it

you can even render wireframe or bounding blocks using it

Thanks for the tips on OpenGL renders, I only vaguely knew sorta nothing about that.  I will investigate.  I'll be curious to see how the image quality and processing time of OpenGL compare to screen recording.  Share your thoughts on that if you wish.

Here's a nube question for you.  Is there a setting anywhere which allows one to boost the image quality shown in the Viewport?  If yes, I'll explore that too.

    Another nube question...

I'm using the base Genesis 8 male and female characters.  I apply the skin material, slap on some clothes, and that's it so far.

To what degree might I enhance the image quality in the Viewport (or OpenGL) by purchasing products from the DAZ store, and/or learning more about lighting?   Or something else that I don't know enough to ask about.

    Dank youse berry much.

    You're welcome jake! ^^

    Yes, try out OpenGL!

You can improve the image quality shown in the Viewport in the "Draw Setting" pane. It's usually on the left, if you don't see it go to Window->Panes in the menu.

The quality of a product you buy is not so different from the standard figures, I buy them for a little bit of variety!
    I may suggest you this guy, that's selling 8 Generation 8 Characters for 4.99: https://www.daz3d.com/fred-winkler-art#filter_compat_figures=Genesis 8 Female^Genesis 8 Male&filtered=1
I don't know if you need Platinum Membership to have that price, in any case the membership is higly suggested if you want to buy something

Lighting, on the other hand, makes a HUGE difference in everything with Iray!
I'm using products like this two and there's an improvement:
    https://www.daz3d.com/ultrahd-iray-hdri-with-dof--the-marina
    https://www.daz3d.com/ly-leonine-pro-hdr-lighting
Althought I've purchased them at 2$...there was a sale some days ago!
The browser extension "Daz Deals" can tell you if the current price is good or not, like Keepa does for Amazon.

Working on it, haven't quite figured out how to render that way yet...

Aha!  Thank you.  I experimented, and did get a better image quality, but then the eyes and hair went wacky.  Will keep learning..

Thanks, he has some very nice characters, but I don't see the sale.  Also, it seems all his characters are dependent  upon other purchase, which I'm guessing is normal?

6 of the 8 of the 4.99$ ones are for the standard G8M and G8F! ^^

Then you'll need the Platinum Membership...3 months are 24$, but you get 3x6$ coupons (one per month), plus the same if you spend at least 18$, plus more discount on almost everything, plus some free items!

    This guy also has 2 females at 4.99: https://www.daz3d.com/hinkypunk#filter_compat_figures=Genesis 8 Female^Genesis 8 Male&order=price^-1&filtered=1

Cool, ok, sounds like a bargain.  But um, where exactly are they?  How do I access the sale?
