How Do I Make a Comic Book/Graphic Novel?

I've heard that you can make renderings look like pen and ink, but I don't know how. I also don't know how to get panels or text on a page, and I don't know how to a comic book assembled and exported to Amazon or other publishers. Also, how do I color the comic book?

There are some long-running threads on Comic book, graphic or visual novels with methods and recommendations.

As Cris said, there are several threads on comics, especially on how to render in different styles. For layout, dialog, etc. I recently discovered Comic Life 3 (https://plasq.com/apps/comiclife/macwin/). This software provides page layouts, panels, speech and thought bubbles, lettering, etc. It can also "comicize" your renders if you don't make them comic-style to start.

I personally like it because it makes putting the renders into a book very easy compared to using a desktop publishing program like Illustrator or MS Publisher.

Amen. Comic Life makes it so easy to create a comic book/ graphic novel style it's literally like falling off of a log as they say.

Oh my, I hope you didn't literally mean 'literally'.  Falling off a log is kind of painful. :)  I agree with the endorsement of Comic Life, though.

  • Thanks, everybody! I'll definitely check out all your recommendations.
