At wits end trying to access my content

Okay, the third time now I am using the Download Install Manager to install Daz Studio 4.6, and some content I purchased.

It keeps setting folders as Users/Public/etc etc etc, but the content will not show up. Period. It's IN THERE, but Daz Studio refuses to acknowledge it. When I first start Studio, it gives me errors saying it cannot find stuff in Users/myname/etc etc.. And this is after I let the DIM handle all the installs.

What the heck do I need to do to install this thing, and then my content and then it WORKS when I run it.

ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

In DS go to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager and add the DIM install location to both DS-formats and Poser formats. New installs of DS will already have the default path, but existing installs keep your previous settings.

Did that as of a couple tries ago, no help. The content simply refuses to appear in Studio for some reason.

Where are you looking for your content?

It should certainly appear in the Content Library pane, under DAZ Studio Formats > My DAZ 3D Library, and also in Poser Formats > My DAZ 3D Library. If you are looking in Smart Content, then there are reasons why there may be no content in there.

Smart Content relies upon the CMS (Content Management Service) running as a process on your machine. You don't say, so I will assume Windows of some variety. Go to the Task Manager in windows, and make sure that the CMS is running, if it is not, then go to Start > All Programs > DAZ 3D, and start it from there.

The Content Library pane does not need CMS to display your content, and it should appear there regardless. If you don't have the Content Library pane displayed, go to Window > Tabs > Content Library, and you can dock it anywhere.

All of this, is assuming that you installed Genesis Starter Essentials and Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials which are the two files that contain all of the free content. Genesis and Genesis 2, will be under DAZ Studio Formats, but earlier models, like V4, M4 etc, will be under Poser Formats in the Content Library.

    See if that helps any?

Hmmm, I don't see anything called CMS running in processes.. is that something I need to install separately? Maybe it got boinked in my numerous reinstalls.. if so how do I go about reinstalling it?

    Thanks, much food for thought.

UPDATE: Didn't see Content Management running so went to its folder and ran the ContentManagementServer.exe manually. It will not run, or it isn't showing up in the Task Manager if it is.

CMS is installed along with the main application (DAZ Studio).

It should have been installed when you installed DS, and it should run automatically when you boot up your machine.

Have you tried starting it from the DAZ 3D folder as described above? If it is not there, then the only way to reinstall CMS, is by reinstalling DAZ Studio, it does not come as a separate download.

Is your content appearing in the Content Library?

No, not really. Sometimes in the pane that shows content, it will list something like "Items 1 - 127" But nothing appears in the pane to go along with it. If I snap the pane to the side to hide it, then snap it back out, some stuff will appear, most of the time I do have assorted odds and ends appear with warning triangles..

Here is a screenshot showing a couple of the problems.

That is the 'Smart Content' pane, the one which relies on CMS to be running.

Please look in the 'Content Library' pane, and your content will appear there whether CMS is running or not. Once you find your content in the Content Library, we can investigate why CMS is not running.

CMS does come as a separate installer with DIM. It will be in a sub-folder titled "cms" in the folder DIM installed to.

Well I tried to find the Content Library Pane, went to Window option at top of screen and clicked Window>Tabs>Content Library and nothing happened. Closed all the Panes and then tried to open it, no pane appears anywhere. It isn't appearing anywhere that I can find it.

You first need to set the Viewport layout to an Advanced style then the Content Library Tab should open. If you have try swapping back and forth in two styles. That should fix any interface error in your saved setup file.

Amazing, that view port change seems to have done it.. brought back the content library, most if not all of my content seems to have appeared and I haven't seen one of those warning triangles yet.. Successfully brought in Michael 5 that I bought last night.. wow.

    Have a GREAT weekend!
