OMG Keymate is Soooo Useful

Thank you who ever made keyMate. It is so much easier to use for animation and dynamic cloth. Halleluiah. The interface is straight forward. You don't even need to read the manual.

For example, you can drag keyframes to a new place.
You can cut and paste keyframe.

I just have one wish: that the scene items listed in keyframe had the same icone that they have in the scene list. It would be easier to detect what type of item it is.

I purchased it, GraphMate and Animate 2but have yet to actually use them. Good to know it's useful. I've been busy fixing up the clothing I made with the beta of MD3. When I get them done then I want to try my hand at making aniblocks.

I find keyMate way more useful than aniMate. I haven't tried graph mate yet, but in the past I have had to use MCasual's (sp?) script to alter the keyframe extrapolation.

Well I figured Animate is really only for saving a finished section of animation as an aniblock.

Speaking of animation, is there a utility for Daz Studio that would let me take a curve I made in Hexagon and make an animated figure or object follow that curve while doing its animation? For example, if I have an animated, rotating missile and I want it to follow a helix curve to it's target, or if I have a dancing figure and I want it to dance along a figure 8 curve.

That is mostly what GraphMate is for. Curves and SMOOTH transitions and well other things...But I've never tried a figure 8.

No, I don't mean graph curves. I mean import a curve I make in Hexagon and have an animated object or figure follow the geometry of the physical curve.

Ah... nothing like that I know of. You can check Casuals stuff. Prob a script for it.

One of the main reasons I got into 3d modeling was to do animations. For my purposes, aniBlocks just don't address my needs, so I work solely with the timeline. I've had my ups and downs animating using the timeline, but I've gotten used to it. I have also looked at keyMate time and again and have admired its purported features. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any reviews of it and it hasn't been on sale so I've passed it over.

One of my biggest gripes with the D|S timeline is the inability to copy and paste keyframes properly (for repetitive motions). Having to right-click and navigate sub-menus to copy, paste, memorize, and restore every time is a big hassle and time waster so I end up writing down parameters and manually typing in values on each and every keyframe.

if keyMate makes this process quicker and easier I will pick it up in a heartbeat. From the few screenshots on the product page there isn't enough information to determine whether the product will meet my needs, and I'm not willing to shell out 20 bucks to find out. Your post Paris is one more positive (for me) toward the usefulness of the product, so thanks!

I like you want to do animation in daz studio. I am able to get great lighting in DAZ, the render times are medium, not glacial, not instantaneous, but quick enough even with uberenvironment. So it actually makes sense to animate in DAZ. iClone has lots of great character animation features and specific content for animation. The fast render engine delivers cheesy lighting that isn't really professional.

Unfortunately the built in daz timeline is an exercise in frustration. This was my first chance to break out keymate and I was blown away. Of course it doesn't take much to impress me after years of working with the daz timeline. Once I am done rendering I will post some screen shots.

Drag a keyframe to a new locatiion
    easily cut and paste frames
Drill down to see what exactly has been keyframe (transform, rotation)

Is it worth $20? That depends on how often you work with keyframes and how much $20 means to your personal financial situation. For me, I would buy it if I use the animation timeline at least once a week.

There are a few other features I need to add to it(Filter for which morphs show up).

I will see what I can do.

I'm closer and closer to picking keyMate up. It looks more and more enticing to me as I continue to work with the D|S timeline. I'm also glad to see you're considering updating it; visibility to morphs would be a great addition!

I'm always working with keyframes, and I'm always working on animations, so there's another mark in the "pro" column for keyMate. The price isn't restrictive at all, I just don't like paying for something only to learn afterward that what I bought doesn't meet my needs. That's just in my nature, though; I've always been a hesitant spender, sometimes to the point of missing out on some great deals.

Thanks again for the info on this product, I think I'm close to a final decision, as it were :)

Another update feature would be to allow the "advance one frame" and "back one frame" to be assigned to a keystroke. "Advance one keyframe" and "back one keyframe" is already implemented but it takes a lot of time (and moving) to advance and backup one frame at a time using the mouse.

I assign advance and back one keyframe to the (shift) right and (shift) left arrow keys which is a great time saver. The same would surely be true for advancing and backing a single frame (using the unshifted left and right arrow key).

KeyMate is very handy for creating animations in DS.

The only problem is the lacking of a "zoom" function (Like GraphMate) to adjust the width of the timeline:(

A little tip I picked up that might help you:

If you go to the timeline and set a shorter range, it will transfer to keyMate. But it definitely would be helpful to be able to set the visible frame range on the keyMate tab.

Yes thanks for the tip. And loving the avatar pic too. Indeed I am wearing women's slacks as I type this! :-)
