A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to DAZ Studio

Until now, I have been stubbornly insistant on using Poser and not using DAZ Studio. But now, older content created for Poser is crashing Poser 2012. CRASHING!!!!!! No software has crashed on my Mac for years and years. So, I've been forced to finally download DAZ Studio 4.6 and actually use it. And do you know what? The Poser content that crashes Poser 2012 opens in DAZ Studio - not perfectly - objects are all the wrong sizes, and they are tossed all over the viewport, but at least they are there, and they render perfectly. Shame on Smith Micro for sabotaging their own software. I have no idea what the problem is. Anyway, I bought some other content made specifically for DAZ Studio - Dreamlight light sets, and Lantios light sets, and i LOVE it! They are beautiful products, and they work beautifully in DAZ Studio. Far better than lighting made for Poser. And Studio is way faster than Poser. So now, maybe I'll be using Poser for dynamic clothing, and then importing it into DAZ Studio. Who knew?

LOL, I hear you! I was a long time poser user. Tried DS a few times and hated the interface. Then came Reality for DS and I had to come to grips with DS and you know what, I prefer it over poser now big time. I can still use most of my poser content, it has some great features that save me a ton of time, and it loads faster than poser 2012, especially the library. I tried going back to poser when Reality was released for it, but I felt like i was going backwards as far as efficiency and workflow go. I still think highly of poser and it's nice to have options, but I have to go with what works the best for my workflow.

Odd, I don't remember seeing anything like this happen to any supposed-to-be-Poser-only items — what are you having problems with?

The only major problem I've ever had (apart from the usual incompatible materials) was that the new style of morph dial controls introduced a few Poser versions back didn't work in D|S3, although this has now been fixed as of the last few D|S versions.

Edit: Just remembered, there is one difference that might cause the sizes hiccup — when you change the scale of an object in D|S, any parented or conformed objects automatically inherit the change as you turn the dial. I've had this cause a few minor hiccups when I load an object not saved at 100% size that has other objects parented or conformed to it. Sometimes the scale change ends up "added twice" and needs to be zeroed out.

These 2 products cause Poser to crash, and open in DAZ Studio at freaked-out sizes - like a plate of sushi that opens the same size as a whole house.

That's strange I have both 2012& 2014 Pro installed and both of those items open up for me without any trouble in both programs

I've been experimenting. I have other large product sets from this content creator. They open fine in Poser 2012. The two sets I pictured above both crash Poser 2012. The objects in these sets are in the Props folder of Poser. I thought maybe opening the whole scene, which consists of many pieces and props, might be the reason it was crashing, so I tried opening 1 prop only - a small lantern - that one prop crashes Poser 2012. These products from this artist have been on sale for years, so I assume everyone else over the years hasn't had a problem or the products would have been corrected or withdrawn from sale.

Edit: if it was a MAC problem then they shouldn't open in Studio 4.6 - but they do, so it can't be because I'm on a MAC, can it?

Edit2: I have literally thousands of pieces of 3D content on my computer, and none of those crash anything.

Can you try reinstalling those particular items? Clearly the problem is local to those items and possibly specific to your Mac. Just because DS can open them and Poser can't doesn't mean that there isn't a problem with the content. DS could just be able to handle or ignore an issue that Poser cannot.
