Which female model version should I use?

I am a new user, and I am wondering if there is a DAZ female model version that I can use for my project? The variety and information that exist on the site do not fully reveal to me whether one will be what I need or not.

In my project, I want a wide variety of body shapes especially. This is something that is a sim of real life situations, and so some women in the project will not look much like the ones figured on the site. That is, some will not be perfectly thin. I noticed that there are "heavy," "emaciated," "bodybuilder," and "voluptuous" versions of the models, but do they just scale between the 4 forms? There is a very strong variety in real life people in body part proportions, and I was wondering if I can closely approach this with a DAZ model. Thanks!

The currently used model is Genesis 8; there are often sales for older generations, like G8's predecessor Genesis 3. It would also depend on what sort of clothing/hair/poses they are supposed to wear (compatibility between generations is sometimes tricky. It also depends on what render engine you intend to use (Iray, 3Delight).

If you go with Genesis 8 Female, For shapes, you best check out the basic Head & Body morphs

I'd also recommend joining the PC+ club to save up on essential DAZ originals.

Thanks for the excellent advice and links! It seems that Shape Shift especially will do what I want.

No matter which generation you choose, you will have to buy additional products to get a variety in body shapes beyond the very limited options that the base program includes.

Genesis 8 is the most recent model and not a bad choice. Start with Genesis 8 Female Body Morphs, and see how far that gets you.

If you use older models, the technology will be less advanced, and you won't be able to use new products that keep being released. On the plus side, it's more likely that you find free products on the net for older models, and products for older models are more often discounted in the store.

The models are, in reverse chronological order:
    Genesis 8
    Genesis 3
    Genesis 2
    Genesis
    Victoria 4
(I wouldn't go further back than Victoria 4)

I wouldn't call the technology of the older generations "less advanced", but just different. Technically, there is not that much of an improvement between G3 and G8, for example, but they use a different rigging system than, say, V4. Morphs are also easier to use with newer generations, and of course the textures have much larger sizes than in the old days, but that is also a matter of bandwiths and RAM space, rather than technical improvements.
